Greetings, I'm looking for a recommendation for the best quality electric guitar/distortion pedal/small amplifier available in Dumaguete or Cebu. Its going to be a present for a person who can play acoustic guitar well, but has never tried an electric. Thank you in advance for any information on this.
guitar depends on your budget, I bought my gear at the audio shop near the market. I can give you the name later, I forgot it. I have a cheap china made guitar that looks like a strat, a fake marshal amp. and a zoom G1n effects pedal, i bought it all at the audio store. it has all the effects in one pedal. I play daily, been playing for over 30 years and this gear works just fine. It's not a perfect guitar but the cost was low. finding a guitar that plays well is the key, there are several on the rack there, some play good enough some play terrible, you have to really sit down and try several. If it's for a gift and you don't know how to play, I would be willing to go with you and make sure your getting the best for you dollar, If you want brand name, real equipt. you wont find it here, but what ever you do, don't buy a guitar at lee plaza.
It will depend on what brand you want. I just go to music shops to buy musical instruments and tools I need.
timetojamman, I'd be very happy and greatful to take you up on your offer, since I can't PM you yet, please give me a text at 0939-221=3933 and maybe we could meet at the music store and you can enlighten me.....:D
this is great news for me. I will be there at the end of March as was wondering if I could find some guys to jam with occasionaly. I am bringing all of my gear with me as I am moving there permanently. I have a tele a strat and several martin acoustics. I play mostly old rock and country as well as bluegrass. I also have a great 5 string banjo as well as A P bass and mandolin and too much stuff to list here. I always let everybody play my instruments hoping some of their talent will be left on the instruments for me. I will post when I finally get there and am settled in maybe we can get together and knock out a tune or two.

Tim, was the shop your talking about a little tiny hole-in-the-wall type place called "Mako Music"? By the corner with all the scooter rentals.
