Stop at the Traffic Enforcer office in the long building across from the post office and ask if the legal fare to Banilad is calculated differently than fares in the city.

Measure the km from say.. Robinsons to your house on your bike odometer so you know the distance.

Once you know the legal fare, you don't have to ask a driver how much the fare is, you just get in and pay the legal fare when you arrive

Some Ceres liners in Cebu have Bayawan as destination.
Convenient for those who travel south of Dumaguete especially if you have luggage.
No need to tranfer in Dumaguete terminal, just a short stop.

That is not true. Legal fares apply from trike-terminals to the destination, or from flagging down a trike to their terminals (market, etc)
They also have the right to wait until the trike is full (same with easy-rides). So if your destination is Sta. Monica, you might wait quite a few hours find other people going there. Other than that it is a "special ride"

Dave, there are multiple trike stations in Dumaguete other than Lee and Robinsons.
Going from Ceres direction Robinson looking like a tourist answers the question for fare itself. If you cross from Ceres and walk 100 meter downtown you can easily catch one for 30 peso in 5 minutes. I did that multiple times to Batinguel, which is way further than Sta Monica.

If you really know a trike driver driving a whole day for 300 peso, it should not be that hard to give him a 5 peso call 15 minutes ahead of time to have a pick up for 40 peso.

Everybody living here can easily collect numbers of reliable driver (when finding one). I have several and they are always fair in terms of pricing and usually in time.

My first trip there the trike driver drove me to biker daves resort I didn,t even ask him how much I figured it would be well under 100p

well upon arriveing he said 750p LOL I said you mean 7p at which point he got very mad and threatening towards me ..

The girl at the resort came out to see what the problem was I told her the driver wants 750p she went off in Bisayan really letting the driver have it and then told me its up to me how much to pay . I asked her if 80p was good and she said to much but I gave it to him anyway and he left very mad . Couple days later i rented a trike for 4 hours to bar hop for 200p and payed for pool games for the driver

The trike drivers and the dock workers try to rip every tourist off every time I have come to Duma its the same deal and I just laugh and use my limited bisayan to let them know I,m not a idiot american

Thanks...let's go slow on the naive members..we were all one at one time.

Rhoody thanks for you input as usual.

My regular trike driver does not own his trike, but rents it from the Owner for 300 pesos a day. I did not mean my trike driver rents his services to me for 300 pesos a day. His charge is usually about 100 pesos an hour, which is why I bought and ride a motorcycle now.

The experience members should remember we all are on a learning curve here. I do not think Lee from Canada is an idiot, just a naive individual, and as you can see from his post he is learning. I have experienced the same sometimes painful "learning opportunities", and am pretty sure I will have more in the future. Sometimes I feel like a kindergartener with so much to learn. I have been here for about 5 months now. The Filipino culture is different than the my US culture and the Forum has help me make my learning curve experioences a little less humiliating and painful.

The drivers who stand and wait at ferry terminal or airport, hotel, bar or restaurant, are looking for the overcharge. Generally it's best to get one driving by. Arriving at Dgte pier I walk out past the touts and pay P20 to a point near the Women's Center, past the far end of the Boulevard. (There I have left my bike before departure in care of a friend. He drives me to the pier; I decline his request to pick me up.)

I offer P20, and it's always been accepted without question. Only once I had a problem. The driver stopped before leaving the pier area to pick up other passengers from the ferry. I loudly insisted, No other passengers. He was quite angry, accusing me of not knowing How we do things here. I replied that with other passengers, I pay only P8. No problem though when we arrived. At my friend's place there's always a group of topless mechanics waving me Hello.

    Okay to answer the question:

Basically, the fare is 8 pesos to 10 pesos.
But since MOST trike drivers are CHOOSY and stingy and mean and just wants to gain a lot of money in just one drive (very dumb and lazy mentality), they would just drive pass and ask you where is your destination and if you offer the "correct" price, they will just drive away from you (with most have this "nodding" gestures meaning that it's too far or not enough for your offered fare price BECAUSE HE WANTS MORE which is so stupid because it would have been better to drive with a passenger than driving and wasting gas hoping to find a passenger who will give a higher fare price..geesh).

Anyway, if a "pedicab" (yep, they call it "pedicab" here in Duma rather than "tricycle") driver asks you a lot then don't ride! There are STILL good drivers there who have principles and are nice and honest to tourists (foreign and locals alike). There will be a lot of opportunistic greedy trike drivers BUT THERE HAS to be drivers who are otherwise, that's true wherever you go and whatever continent you are into.

Anyway, i am not a local here in Duma, and would consider my self a tourist (well, "was", i know how DUMA works now BUT..) i still have issues being tricked by these greedy trike drivers actually!
It's not just true to foreigners alone! Nope, if they can sense you're like a newbie in the city, then they will "attack" you and make extra-ridiculous-money from you. (i would say Cebu and Manila are notorious for this!!!).

I am Filipino, a student, i love Philippines and love my countrymen so much too BUT regarding to these kind of people (the greedy "pedicab" drivers) well, it pisses me off but that's just how they dirtily work. It's how they think because first and foremost, majority of them never had any sort of education, even if they did, it would be very very very elementary. So maybe that's why that's how lowly they think. I really don't wanna judge because not all trike drivers are like that.

If you are lucky enough to be a passenger of a very GOOD trike driver (well, you will know because we have instincts, and learn to trust it sometimes) it would be kind and somehow "practical" enough to get his number and you may want to get contact with him and if you're like stranded in a place where you think it's far and no tricycles on the go, then you can just contact that GOOD guy.
And also, it's when you give him extra money or pay him extra amount of cash without any feeling of hate or disgust because it's from your will and you will feel happy for the guy.
Well, i have tried this and have 5 pedicab drivers on my list. And so far so good, it's really really really helpful.
BUT you also have to be careful too. One day they may get spoiled and will anticipate that you will give him extra-money and will get angry if you'll just give less. Well, you have to be careful if you try to contact them at nights especially you're alone. He's still a stranger btw, and you must still have to be very careful 200 percent of the time.

Anyway, in behalf of the greedy drivers, i am sorry. I'm very much opposed to them myself.
    Just remember,
You can't be a "victim" if you don't let yourself be victimized.
    Kudos everyone!
