    Hi everyone!

Just hoping if somebody knows the current shipping cost for used car from Mla-Dgte by boat (sulpicio lines) other ways to save some money to land my car in Dumaguete. Any advise would be appreciated.

I think Sulpicio doesn't exist under that name anymore. Since their last major accident, they changed their name to Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corporation and I believe they do not carry passengers and do not have a RORO system. I assume you will be driving your car onto the ship? If not, it will probably have to be crated or in a container and that will change the price. I just bought a used car in Manila a few weeks ago. I had considered taking it home on superferry but finally decided to drive it to Dumaguete. I just arrived from Manila with my car yesterday. If you go to the Superferry website (now it is called 2Go and incorporates Superferry, Cebu Ferries, and Negros Navigation), , you can calculate the actual price of shipping your vehicle. The price is based on actual length, width and height. I was quoted around Php 16,000, plus passengers from Mnl to Dgt for a small car, 4.1 meters long. Note that Superferry travels to Dumaguete only once a week, Mondays, leaving Manila at 8:30 pm.

Following advice from one of the members here, we drove from Manila to Batangas (1.5 hours) and took Montenegro Lines to Calapan (2 hours), then drove to Roxas (3 hours) and took another ferry to Caticlan (4 hours). The drive from Caticlan to Dumangas near Ilo Ilo can take 4 to 7 hours depending on traffic and your driving habits. A 2 hour ferry ride got us to Bacolod then another 4 to 5 hour drive to Dumaguete. If you decide to take this route, you should consider that this is the summer season, lots of weekend ferry traffic at the Bantagas port and tons of busses at night going to Caticlan (we had 9 busses on our small ferry and we could not even find a seat on the boat). If you travel when they are harvesting sugar cane, there can be big truck line-ups at Dumangas (I once waited 8 hours to cross there). The roads were generally good with little construction. The only high traffic areas were getting to the south Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Manila and driving through Bacolod and on to Kabankalan.

I had also considered the eastern route through Legaspi, Samar, Leyte, and Cebu but ferry prices were too high (better to take superferry).

    Hope this helps,

    Steve

A problem you will more than likely encounter if you try and ship your car is getting an actual committed shipping schedule. They may tell you it will ship in two weeks but then they may come back and tell you there was not enough space left on the boat to ship your car. Best way is to as Steve did and enjoy the ride. Weather is good this time of year.

Ya, you are right I'm thinking about "land trip" few ferry ride is not too bad. Summer time, might as well let my brother and his family enjoy the sights along the way. Thanks PatO

Hi Steve! I found your guide very helpful particularly the route Mnla-Batangas-Calapan-Roxas-Caticlan-Dumangas-Bacolod-Dgte. I was just wondering if you still remember the incurred expenses on each transfer/port? If its too hassel, may I just ask for the total expense/cost that I can compare with the Php16,000 of Superferry. And would it be safe to schedule the entire drive for a day and a half? I summed the hours you stated and it totaled to about 24.5hrs.
This is quite a new experience for me, a first at that, thats why im researching all that i can.
Hope you can help me. Im planning for the last quarter of this year; maybe during the Halloween break.
    Thanks in advance!

I have taken this route a couple times, with a motorcycle though. It can be less expensive if you avoid the ferries that operate under 2go shipping. And there is only 3 ferries to take from Manila to Dumaguete. On a motorcycle from Matnog to Allen it is around 300 pesos for a motorcycle and I believe they said somewhere around 1,200-1800 for a car. There are a couple options in Leyte as to how to get to Cebu but I always go to Ormoc. That was 800 pesos to Cebu from there on a motorcycle (that was with 2Go, and after some "negotiations" on the price). I think a car would run you anywhere from 2000-4000 pesos depending on how greedy the guy behind the desk is. From there you just run to the southern tip of Cebu island and catch the ferry over for about 1000. That would probably run you a total of 8,000-12,000 including gas and other expenses. It is possible to do that trip in 24 hours if you catch all the ferries at just the right time.

I've also went Cebu-Masbate-Bicol once but I highly recommend avoiding Masbate at all costs. Once you are on that island there is only one way out and that company can, and will, charge you whatever they want. I believe I paid 1,500 for a 12 hour boat ride from Cebu-Masbate and then had to pay 1,800 for a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride to Bicol. (yeah, not a lot but it's the principle, and the 1,800 wasn't the first price quoted. Ask for a receipt and expect to wait 2 additional hours for them to write it up...."wait awhile"...)

I actually had this plan early this year. Had my parents canvass in some(i believe they found two) 2nd hand car shops because they still reside there in dgte. They said it was too limited. They only found one car that they like. I also do not know anyone in person who's selling his/her car there. But i have officemates here in manila that are selling theirs...this is why.
