I have had many positive things happen to me here, but here is one that happened to a friend of mine. Last Saturday night, we were having a few beers together at our favorite watering hole. On his way home (on his bike), he lost his wallet somewhere on the Sibulan highway. In his wallet was U.S.$95 bucks, several credit cards, U.S medical insurance card, P500, U.S. drivers license, local drivers license, immigration I card and who knows what else. The next morning his gf contacted all the radio stations. Today he was contacted by one of them that his wallet had been found and turned in. Then around 20 minutes later it showed up at his door!! Inside was everything except the P500. Now, I would like to give credit where credit is due. What a great service by the mostly amazingly honest finder and the incredibly honest FM station. And when I get more information on this great FM service I will post it. Ron
maybe he thinks that's his reward ! I would happily give that, even a lot more reward. All the headache phoning the credit company's and every thing else.
Finders fee.. LOL.. Anyway, it's a very small cost to pay compared to the hassles of getting replacement cards, etc.
It's kinda unbelievable that someone would return a wallet and take 500P but leave the rest of the cash but maybe it happened. I believe that many drinks occurred and the person thinks they had 500p in their wallet. Alcohol does wonders for the mind.
Good things do happen here. Do things do happen here in Dumaguete along with the rest that happens. On my visits prior to moving to I manage to lose my camera at Why Not Restaurant. It was small and hook on it broke off my belt. I called and it was returned to me. I also left my credit card at HayaHay. That time the waitress said no one would do that...I guess she thought I was accusing them of stealing it. A minute later when we located the waiter, he had my credit card in his hand for me. I do not think there was any evil happening there either. It almost balances off all the experience I have had with pedicab drivers. I have located and identified the good drives, but I feel sorry for the tourist. If you want to try something put a backpack on your back and tour book in your hand and see the rates go through the roof for pedicabs. I would like to hear about other good experiences here. It is good for our souls and justifies us living here.
The person who turned the wallet in may not have been the first person to find it... I've never heard of anyone getting a lost cellphone returned. Forget a phone at a restaurant etc? sure you probably will get it back; though a guy came into Shakeys back before it closed who'd forgotten his Blackberry. No one knew anything about it. If he did indeed leave it there, then someone pocketed it. Lose it on the streets etc, and - good luck.
Actually did get my cell phone back After eating in, the Lee Plaza food court, and left my phone on the tray. I went to church, and during the service realized I had left it behind. I went back to the food court and asked the fellows who pick up the trays if they had found a cell phone and they quickly handed to me. I am not sure that going to church helped me get it back or not.
Of course it did, had you not been in the church, you'll probably won't be thinking about your phone.....
