    Saudi Headwear Deal Reached

The International Olympic Committee said Saudi female judo athlete Wojdan Shaherkani will compete in the Olympic Games, resolving a dispute about whether she would be allowed to fight in headwear that had become a point of contention with the International Judo Federation.

    A Saudi Athlete's Conflict—Rules or Religion

The IOC said Tuesday that an agreement had been reached between Saudi Arabia's Olympic committee and the judo federation regarding the 16-year-old athlete. The judo federation had said last week that she needed to remove her head scarf, known as a hijab, for the match.

Her father and Saudi officials have said she can't compete without her head covered. "They've reached an agreement on what suitable headgear she can wear," IOC spokesman Mark Adams said. "She will be competing later this week."

Sixteen-year-old Wojdan Shaherkani strolled through the Olympic judo venue in a lacy, light-pink head scarf, accompanied by her father and unsure whether she would leave the Games a trailblazer or diplomatic casualty.

The agreement appears to have been that she can wear something that covers her head, but isn't a full hijab, as is sometimes worn in Asian judo competitions. A representative for the Saudi Olympic committee couldn't be reached. A judo federation spokesman said, "The solution agreed guarantees a good balance between safety and cultural considerations."

Shaherkani and another woman are the first female members of Saudi Arabia's Olympic team, and their selection to compete in the Games was hailed, at least internationally, as a breakthrough for one of the world's most conservative Muslim countries.

Great Britain won the ladies pairs rowing. Not difficult really. It's an activity that is done sitting down, and has the same basic arm movement as ironing. :p

Why you ungrateful male chauvinist pig, after all I have done for you. You, you, you drunk b@st@rd, pissing in the coat closet instead of the water closet, and I had to clean up, crapping on your easy chair instead of the toilet, and then there was the mess with the neighbor's young daughter I lied for you. I don't miss you birdturd, hope you are still pissing your pants at the bars. Btw a-hole, keep those alimony checks coming.
    Signed, your ex-tw@t
