Is there a safe reliable ATM for withdrawing money from U.S. major bank in Dumag? On the map I have of Dumag. there is shown one atm labeled "international". I think my U.S. (major) bank does not have it's own atm machines in P.I. but I think it belongs to major network (cirrus maybe). I just got done researching atms and found a huge number of complaints from people who had their accounts debited and the stupid machines gave no money with subsequent problems trying to correct the mistake (read theft). Last I checked P.I. banks were charging fees on the receiving end for withdrawals anywheres from P150 to 350. What's the current status on that?
With Filippino banks you are never sure you get the service you deserve. Most ATM machines in Dumaguete accept major (International)bank cards (with logo Visa-Mastercard-Cirrus-Maestro etc) Just check before trying to withdraw money,if the logo of your card is on the ATM. ATM's in Dumaguete distribute a maximum of 10,000 pesos/transaction and charge an extra100 pesos fee Never heard of problems with ATM machines in a booth (like the one from Metrobank) but always a line of customers, and mosrly it takes them a long time in the booth to do wathever they do there.
Thanks for the good reply firefly. Yes I have noticed the long lines, not just a Metrob. but others as well. My other friend here tells me he has had no problems with atms in Dumag. but there are lots of complaints about malfunctioning atms online and it's hell trying to get the bank to correct them according to the posters. The p100 of course is in addition to the ripoff fees my US bank is going to charge me for withdrawal. The whole banking system is a scam when it comes to accessing your money abroad.
Praise yourself lucky with an US bankcard. Having an European bankcard the PH bank charges me with a 200 peso mafia fee when I make a withdrawal from an ATM.
That's correct. Each transaction with a UK bank card is charged 200 peso by the Philippine bank. The maximum is usually 10000 peso, approximately 150 pounds, whereas the maximum withdrawal in UK is 300 pounds, therefore to get the same amount of money you need to make two transactions, and pay two terminal fees. The UK bank will also charge ERTF, the exchange rate transfer fee. This is another rip off by UK banks. It's the same amount of work to convert 1000 peso as it is to convert 10,000 peso, and it is done electronically anyway, but they charge a percentage of the amount exchanged instead of a fee for the actual amount of work involved. UK bankers reputation and trustworthiness is now in the same crap category as estage agents, insurance sellers, traffic wardens and double glazing salesmen.
I think it's way cheaper to open an account with a PH bank in Duma and bulk transfer your money every couple of months.
Yes, I use my Royal Bank of Scotland card at Robinsons and I am always charged 200 peso. It shows on my online account as a charge, approximately 3 pound 10 pence, then the thieving barstewards also bill me for the exchange rate transfer fee on top of that.
