In the USA, the shortest wait time for kidney patients awaiting a cadaver kidney for transplant will be in the states that have no helmet laws..

Still lots of emotions and personal opinions offered on the helmet law; it is controversial topic. I am in the dumb @ss category because sometimes I wear a helmet and sometimes I don't, a matter of choice. However, as a father with an 11 mo. old boy, I am obligated to do whatever I can to extend my life time to help raise him and be there for him, so I don't go more than 40 KPH when riding. Still, I know someone can pancake me so I am trying to instill helmet discipline and wear the d*mn thing all the time.
What I don't think works here is implementing the full word of the law here in N.O. Long pants, shoes, and whatever else is packaged in the wording needs flexibility. In other words, implement the spirit of the law. Headlights and taillights and crazy drivers, as stated over and over again on this forum, are a much greater concern than helmets and more important than mirrors. The current governor, congressmen, mayor, LTO, PNP for whatever reason don't seem to give a s**t about lights, not sure why, I guess they have drivers and don't have to personally face it. Hope I don't run into anyone coming back to Bacong later tonight, it is scary and stressful watching for the no-light motorbikes.

That's my opinion too, there is no straight forward solution for a Country like the Philippines in this matter and the Authorities should recognize and consider all aspects of this unique Culture and People...

no way to do that... the only time the Philippines acts as a country is during boxing of a congressman or when an alien makes a critical note and everybody screams out loud. other than that it is an archipelago put together by military force under one name. that historically never worked out anywhere in the world, unless you overpower all "natives" and build a new race over the next few hundred years.

Here we have a lot of "micro-kingdoms" and as further they are away from Manila as less they care what is said there, (often correct to do so, as Manila also does not care a lot either).

However, the multiple threads about this topic show a interesting picture. While many aliens (including me) basically admit that it is pretty foolish and against any common sense not to wear a helmet, our few local members blame others or find excuses why not to wear it. from: "I don't wear helmet because it is a un(forgot that ridiculous word) law, so i am against it" to the most stupidest "we can't afford"

I don't wear a helmet because I walk...but somehow I got the feeling that some senator will come up with the law to put helmets on walkers too. I am at home in Dumaguete... I've done my time.

I still don't give a d*mn about the helmet law and never will.

What I do care about them doing something about is, noisy motorcycles, trikes who U turn without notice, trikes that pull into traffic without notice, trikes that for the life of them can't even go 30 KPH, trikes that love to block traffic, motorcycle without lights, truck drivers with mass amounts of smog, double and triple parking especially by trikes, double and triple overtaking. the failure to use turn signals, Pajero's that love to fake that they will overtake and block you off but never do (I cringe when I get stuck behind a Pajero SUV, its like to qualify to buy one must be an *sshole driver).

    helmets

The gov. is always making laws but maybe they could have some for themselves like putting reflectors on baracades etc.

as walkers need to walk on the roads, due to bikes parked everywhere it might make sense, and don't forget:

On the Bike (and we only have Bikes) I can still stand it, because eventually I will have a chance to overtake and get away from the Smokers or past the slow Tricycle but I am noticing that a lot of four stroke Bikes are smoking badly, the reason being, running them without proper Airfilters. I am also wondering why a lot of seemingly new Diesel Cars are smoking a lot, I remember a story from a Guy who owns a Mitsubishi L200 new, after he had his first Tune-up the car consumed 10% more fuel and smoked badly, after checking back with the Garage, one of the Mechanic said that he made adjustments on the Injection-pump to improve performance...O-|
