HI, I am Jon brand new here, thinking of relocating to Negros/Dumagute. I need consistent internet access, enough to Skype reliably on week ends and weekdays, not 2 megs or anything just 1 or less. I use Globe DSL in Cebu and have no issues.

I seem to read that more brownouts are happening now than 3 years ago, is it true, perhaps a generator is in order.

thanks for the good forum with good info.

PS i need a motorcycle, they have rouser dealer or TVS in Dumaguete?

Taken PH standard into consideration than Globe broadband is rather reliable. Scheduled brown outs (mostly on Sundays) are few in numbers throughout the year. Unscheduled brown outs very seldom, it all depends what's your expectation when compared with the situation you are used to where you live now.
As far as I know there's no Kawasaki dealer in town, though lot's of shops do sell Rouser motorbikes and thus also give service and do maintenance. On the North Road (going into the airport direction) just before the junction with Rovira Rd there's a TVS dealer.

well that's what it was like 4 years ago when i last lived there, not bad then. thanks for the info. I remember evening slow down issues with internet. Skype needs only about 40 mbps as I recall. internet usage usually means asking potential neighbors before you move in to see what the local service best to use is. been there done that. was hoping it improved in general.

    Hi Jon,

there are definitely less brownouts than 3 years ago. Back than there were daily brownouts from 5 - 6pm, sometimes to 7pm for many month. In Dumaguete are almost no unscheduled brownouts anymore and if, they usually last very short time. ...can't speak for areas around the City.

scheduled brownouts usually occur from march to mid-end november. scheduled normally bi-weekly, but even they are most of the time shorter than announced and only in certain areas for the whole time announced.

With all ranting about NORECO, but everybody who is longer here than 2 years probably can verify that the general power situation improved a lot. right now I have 215 Volts (6:20 pm, where all shops are still open, and also all lights in private houses and other appliances are running), that is about 35 to 45 Volts higher than 3 years ago.

With the scheduled brownouts you will have problems with internet on Weekend, where the connection is generally slower from friday afternoon 'till sunday evening, no matter what ISP, one can't win against 10thousands of online gamer..

Kawasaki Rousers are available at GUD Motors on Cervantes Street, near Rejoice Hardware and at Choice Motors on the North National Hiway across from NORSU, near the Provincial Capitol among others(the names might not be exact but I have priced the 135's at both places in the past). Kawasaki parts are available at GUD Motors and New Lucky Terminal at the South end of the Boulevard.

If you plan on moving to Valencia you should also be asking about water reliability as it has been real sh*t since that tropical Storm last year. If I didn't have an awesome landlord I would have moved by now.

Info about city water reliability in Valencia

What is your situation at this moment ? My plan is to move in the Balugo sector not to far from the broken bridge. A well water might be a solution.

My landlord was given a quote of ₱600,000 for a well in Valencia. I have to take a shower at 3 in the morning or there isn't enough water pressure to turn the water heater on. The other solution is a bucket and add hot water, filipino style.

If you are not more than about 100 meters off the river either side I would say that you can get quite easy to the water-table and you can set up an inexpensive Deep-well with a Pressure tank, electricity is no problem in that area...
