im tommy, i spent 2 yrs in the philippines from 2010 to 2012, and 9 months later, im ready to go back, this time for good. i lived in bohol, manila, cebu and surigao. when i was in surigao there was a great group of expats there and we used to meet twice a week.. there was about 30-35 of us, loads of fun. are there any groups like that there in d.c.? also can anyone tell me the best city to rent in for an expat? any suggestions about what to expect when i get there?
thanks for all your replies friends--

There are no expat gatherings here of that sort as most just stick to themselves and small groups, least that I'm aware of. However every morning there are a handful of foreigners at McDonalds that get together to chicka chicka where new faces are welcome. Back in Cagayan de Oro we had the same sort of thing until a group of filipina's started an infighting in the expats group, split it in 2, and it all fell apart.

Dumaguete is a nice small university city. Lots of pretty girls, and driving is a major pain at times but thats normal. You won't find much to do here or many luxuries that you'd be used to in Manila or Cebu but it does get a few things now and then and a couple good resteraunts. We don't have an SM or Gaisano, and Robinsons is a joke as far as I'm concerned here.

Dumaguete is better than Cebu, Surigao, Manila, and Bohol ....in her own way.

Only you can verify what is "good" to your tastes. Give it a try... maybe a few days.

Maybe list your family size or basics of what your looking for. Lots of places around as always but depends on what your looking for and such.

However unless your looking to stay at a real nice big place with a big family at a nice beach.... cross that 20k off your list. If you look you can find lots of decent places for 10-15k, even places under 10k.

I don't think this is possible within 30 km from Dumaguete, even a beachlot alone will always be more expensive.
I think Tommy is referring to 25,000 pesos rent a month.
