If there was a good English teacher available here would you like lessons for your wife?

    Brian,
Why would anyone want to do that? This is clearly a bad idea that must have occurred late at night and sloppy thinking on your part. Please delete this post so your previous posts won't be forever tainted.

I picked up some of the local Visaya and I have a little knowledge of Tagalog that I found very helpful with the locals, lots of fun if you are the one with the disadvantage...

it is a very good idea if one wants to be able to have a resonable conversation with ones woman not just to bed her.

....or they would rather teach English to their significant other themselves?

for a reasonable conversations, english is the last they need to learn.... unless remembering all UNLI-codes the date of all Barangay Fiestas and all soap-stars is reasonable for some of course.

those who know more than that, usually speak already quite good english

"usually speak already quite good english" thats ok if your native tongue is not English, I am talking about a decent conversation not just Oo or raised eye brows or a cute look as if they understand you.

I am amazed with the lack of response and the (I won’t say it) replies given, it is not my idea it was from other friends but I do think it is a very good idea, and would be very interested to have my other half taught more English than she currently knows.
Some English speaking expats here really have difficulty in communicating with their asawa’s , maybe some expats have just got bye by nodding pointing or just raising their empty bear can.
Oh don’t reply saying why don’t I learn the local language, that I have started but it will be a long time, most women here have learned English at school, but it is Philippine English
