Went to Jimalalud for their fiesta on Sunday, the 13th. Left in the morning about 10am and by the time we arrived at a little after 12 we had passed 5 fully manned and well armed police checkpoints on the North Highway. I was on a motorcycle, with my Son, both of us wearing shoes, long pants and shirts, helmets with stickers, registration and licence were up to date. We got waved through at 3 checkpoints, they stopped and asked to see drivers licence at 2 checkpoints. Does anyone else see this as being excessive? Is this really about putting teeth into the new helmet laws, or is this taxation through citation?
The gun ban for election time came into force on Sunday so probably more to do with this than helmet law etc!
gun ban is in effect. its not the helmet law they are interested in although that's a secondary objective.
Went to Cebu, on Jan 9th, and there was 9 Check points between Santander and Cebu City, some manned by military most by PNP. At everyone they all looked bored and not bothered, however at one i was waved to, but just waved back and carried on . . . I've not been following the Helmet law feeds but when i was in Cebu, i was told my expensive Oz Racing Helmet, although ICC Sticker by the DTI here in Duamguete, is now no longer legal . . . . I was told i would face a fine in Cebu if caught, best i buy a cheap chinese made one that i can squash in my hands . . . Mine is the same design as the ones the police wear . . so are they illegal too ?
