The second amendment is the only reason the first amendment still exists.

    My 2 Cents

Lets start by saying it's only natural for a person to be patriotic about your country. *I don't question your patriotism of your country no matter how odd some things seem. *If you are not a citizen, or have not lived in a country for an extended amount of time I believe you should curb your tongue about matters of heart and country. *I am a US Citizen and proud to say it. *When anyone encroaches on the US Constitution or the US Flag they are stepping on all the people that made our country great by hard work and spilling their blood to keep it that way. *For this I take personal offense because I*don't*forget what others have done to make sure I am free to speak my mind, yet at the same time I realize that they are just not enlightened and have the right to say what they want and express their opinion on the matter. *Our forefathers were wise beyond there time when authoring the US Constitution. * *One of the things about our country is you are able to speak your mind with out fear of*retribution. *Not so in many countries around the world. *

A few quotes of a learned wise man, Benjamin Franklin

The best Princes have ever encouraged and Promoted Freedom of Speech; they know that upright Measures would defend themselves, and that all upright Men would defend them.

Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security.

WITHOUT Freedom of Thought, the can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as publick Liberty, without Freedom of Speech; which is the Right of every Man, as far as by it, he does not hurt or control the Right of another.

Now if you take away my Constitutional right to bear arms and form a well regulated*militia, what is next our freedom of speech? *Freedom of the Press? *The right to assemble? *Next thing you know this would evolve into a Socialist Government.

There are a few facts to be noted that the average person in the USA does not realize. *Guns don't kill people, people kill people. *All of the people that have*committed*these atrocities as of late are*suffering*from a mental*disease, and or are on medication. *Maybe they we need closer scrutiny in this manner. *Those same people were not the legal registered owner of these firearms. *
Where I live we have 2 firing ranges for target shooting, public*competitions and most*impotently firearm safety courses offer to the public, even middle school students. *In our town we enjoy hunting with our firearms and we carry them for protection while in the forests. *yes there are bad things here that will eat you if you have no defense.* In my house I keep my firearms locked in a proper gun vault. *They are safe from children in this manner.*

People with book smarts or a degree behind there name don't always get it right. *People with so much book smarts miss the point so often. *Go back in time and walk in the founder's shoes. *They grew up with a*tyrannical*government oppressing the people. *They had there life*experiences and there family's life*experiences to give them the forethought about what to put in the Constitution. *They may not have had any idea of what an automatic weapon, or a semiautomatic weapon would be, but I bet they d*mn well would have used them if they had them, and I bet they still would have worried more about a tyrannical government and wrote the Constitution in the same manner.

For those of you who are not enlightened. *It is legal to own a fully automatic weapon in the USA, depending on what state you live in. *It does require lots of paper work, a special tax stamp, more paperwork, and an extensive background check. *To my knowledge there have been no violent crimes committed with these firearms.

There is a difference between an*Assault*weapon and a semi-auto assault-style weapon. *The first being a military weapon that is fully automatic, and the second being a civilian weapon that many internal parts have been*substituted. *They only look*similar on the outside. *

So often I hear ownership of a firearm compared to an automobile. *My personal thought is a driving a car is not a Constitutional Right, it is a*privilege. *Owning a firearm is a Constitutional Right. *Privileges can and should be more heavily*regulated than Constitutional Rights.

Violent crime in the United States of America is down by 50% in the last 20 years according to FBI studies. *

    Overview
In 2011, an estimated 1,203,564 violent crimes occurred nationwide, a decrease of 3.8 percent from the 2010 estimate.
When considering 5- and 10-year trends, the 2011 estimated violent crime total was 15.4 percent below the 2007 level and 15.5 percent below the 2002 level.
There were an estimated 386.3 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2011.
Aggravated assaults accounted for the highest number of violent crimes reported to law enforcement at 62.4 percent. Robbery comprised 29.4 percent of violent crimes, forcible rape accounted for 6.9 percent, and murder accounted for 1.2 percent of estimated violent crimes in 2011.
Information collected regarding type of weapon showed that firearms were used in 67.7 percent of the nation’s murders, 41.3 percent of robberies, and 21.2 percent of aggravated assaults. (Weapons data are not collected for forcible rape.) (SeeExpanded Homicide Data*Table 7,*Robbery Table 3, and the*Aggravated Assault Table.)

I somehow think the 2nd was more about the right to protect yourself against aggressors, than the right to have flintlocks.
I'm pretty sure they would think something like 'Man, what powerful guns. But, if the aggressor got access to them, the people need too, as a flintlock is no match against an AK'.

    Good day
just to clarify the most misquoted amendment in the US constatution, The actual amendment is as follows.

Quote 'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:

'A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed'.

The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House and Senate, was prepared by scribe William Lambert and resides in the National Archives.

So how many fire arm owning citizens are a member of there local Militia ?.
