Posted from another site but of interest maybe.. For when travelling in the outback or journeying on the quiet interior roads. In todays paper 9 Killed in NPA Attack in Negros Occ. By Aaron B. Recuenco January 27, 2013, 3:57pm MANILA, Philippines --- Nine people, including a policeman and mostly village watchmen, were killed on Sunday in a remote area of Negros Occidental in what is believed to be the biggest number of fatalities from a single attack by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) this year. Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz, Jr., director of the Western Visayas regional police, said at least six others, including two more policemen, were also wounded in the attack. “Our personnel and the barangay tanod were actually on their way home after serving as augmentation force during a fiesta celebration in a nearby barangay,” said Cruz. He identified the slain cop as Police Officer 1 Richard Canja, assigned to the La Castellana Police Station. The six other fatalities were barangay security watchmen while two others were civilians -- the wife of one of the barangay tanod and the driver of the truck. Cruz said the three cops from La Castellana and the barangay tanods were on their way home from Barangay Puso when the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. Sunday in nearby Barangay Cabacungan. Chief Insp. Rico Santotome, spokesman of the Negros Occidental police, said the incident appeared to be a cold-blooded murder, especially considering that some of the perpetrators even approached some of the victims and shot them at close range. Fortunately, he said the children inside the truck were spared by the perpetrators. “They were flagged down first by some 30 fully-armed men and it was after all the children on board alighted the truck when they started firing at the truck,” said Santotome. One of the perpetrators approached Canja and shot him in the head after seeing that he was still alive. Santotome said the perpetrators then fled towards the nearby province of Negros Oriental, noting that the area where the incident occurred is near the boundary of the two provinces. “Soldiers already joined our personnel in the conduct of the pursuit operation,” said Santotome. Take care all.
NO they are very active in many districts sta. Catalina, Sipalay just to name a few real hot spots, they have many bad tricks.
This attack does not sound like the NPA, this sounds like a political assassination. The NPA usually does not attack civilians en masse, they attack government affiliations, and those tied to "raping" the land and not giving back to the public (mines, illegal logging, slash burns, etc.). Interesting though that the cop killed was tied to the murder of a forest ranger last November (prime suspect). Larry
One year ago in Bayawan a group claiming to be N.P.A came to town from Sta. Catalina were a group of people from the mountains were collecting their Government hand out money at the Land Bank,They started taking their money one lady would not give up her 2000peso and got her hand cut off another was was stabbed in the gut and died many were injured,( the guards did a runner lol The story was well covered up ,but it did happen i was there at the time . A mate from USA built a nice house in the mountains out of Basi he came home one day and found the NPI in his house they told him to get his things n p*ss off or he would be dead he left with a wife n little else, so i dont have a lot of time for them. Never get between a dog and a tree
There was also the case of machinery being set on fire just north of manjuyod, in the news the npa were blamed. The true story came out after, the worker had not been paid for some time. The npa seem to be used as a scapegoat here for cover ups on the truth.
Maybe davyl200. I know that can happen who knows anything for sure here. DO NOT GET BETWEEN A DOD AND A TREE
