I almost never actually get stopped at police roadblocks any more, they always wave me on but whenever I have I've always been asked for my licence that's the most important thing, more important than registration, which they don't always ask for. Helmet is only important if they are specifically cracking down on non-helmet wearers at that particular block, several times I've been asked for license and registration, but they've not said anything about my not wearing a helmet. Another time I got a fine like every other driver not wearing a helmet at that particular block, but they weren't interested in any license. Bottom line is if you wear a helmet and you're not doing anything to draw attention to yourself, you will probably get waved on at a block. One thing that is unlikely to happen to a foreigner is being stopped by the police and frisked for guns on your bike which can happen to Filipinos.

Thank you to everyone, (Roody, Larry, highway_61, kewl, syrkyn, rr_biker) who have taken the time to reply to my enquiry about renting a motorcycle. All of your replies are helpful and appreciated!!

Sorry, I am not an experienced poster so I don't always get my replies directed to the correct person. It will be nice to be back in the Dumaguete / Sibulan area to visit my wife's family after an absence of two years.
    Kind regards to all,
    Bubba
