Hmmm' I guess either we are paying not enough or many people are paying too much. From what I can learn, helpers in Cebu get around 1800 to 2000 to start, then gradual raises. Manila is a little more up to around 4000 after much time. We usually get ours from the mountains and have had some good luck, but after a while they get either home sick or too big for their britches.
One point my wife makes really sounds right to me. Compared to a girl who works in a store, our helpers have it much better. We offer free housing, hot showers, good food and bonuses. Shop girls have to pay everything themselves and don't nearly as well. Maybe we all need to re-think things. Many could not get a job at all if not for us.
As someone else stated, in many cases we have to train them from scratch, most have never seen modern appliances nor lived in such nice places. Many are not unthunking of picking up anything they want without asking. Using others cell phones, wearing others shoes and the like.
Personally I am stymied to know what is the answer. One filipina friend told me to never have one. But,new need one. So what is the answer?

We pay our housekeeper P2000 pm, & she is happy with that, as she to takes on board the total package on offer, Good food, acomadation . Laundry etc. We have tried em all Recomendations, freinds, Family members,Young ,Old, Out of the mountains ,from the city & any other combo you can think of.
It just comes down to the girl & her attitude in the end, eventually you will get lucky. Very eventually in some cases!.
I think that it all comes down to the adage ' You pays yer money & takes your luck '....

One thing this law doesn't consider is that many of the girls that work as helpers have no ID. We have had several that did not have birth certificates, Baptismal records, or any other kind of identification, making it impossible to get Phil Health or SSS. We have typically helped the girls working for us to get the required identification documents; even as far as late registration of birth. Once they have their birth certificate and have been with us for more than 6 months, we get them started on Phil Health. It is a fairly simple process and only costs P100 per month (maybe P120 now). We haven't had as much luck with SSS and I think it is basically useless for most of them. they will never pay into it once they leave because any possible benefits are too distant. Even Phil Health will probably go by the wayside for most young girls but at least it gives them some level of protection while working for us and gives them a headstart for their future if they want it.

I understand what you are saying roadkill but it is very hard. My wife hates training them and treating them like family just to have them leave. It's hard on her to go through it. Plus it always makes us feel bad because we treated them so well.

I know what Steve means as well. We have another problem also. We have suggested paying Phil health or SSS an they refused it. They said they would rather just have the money instead. I can't understand what they are thinking.

it depends if someone wants a paid friend or a helper doing the work.

Look into the other direction, get a 45 -50 year old where the kids are out of the house and the husband dead (or there was never one) she already has a clue how to take care of a house and will work as told.

    2 options

1st: they are stupid and don't think further than the next load.
2nd: they think they are smart and running to a lawyer after working for a year, telling they never receiverd all the benefits.

2nd happened at Siquijor to a long-nose with some guest rooms. when all was full, he got an additional helper.
she ran to barangay capitain after more than 2 years telling that she works there since 2 years but got no 13th month etc.

guess who paid a lot ...

Hi, you can start at Php1,500/month. but then you already started with 2k. Depending on the performance of the domestic aid, you decide either to raise her salary each year let's say by Php500 probably until such time you can have your budget ceiling for the household help. It's all about convenience and how satisfied you are with the services rendered.
