There is now denying that Negros Oriental has definitely entered the tourism map.

In January alone, an unprecedented 27,713 tourists visited Dumaguete and Negros Oriental and occupied some l6,500 hotel rooms out of the presently available 43,091 rooms in various hotels, resorts and pensionne houses.

As predicted, the tourist spillovers from Cebu and Bohol have looked over Dumaguete and Siquijor for new adventures. Bohol and Cebu they say are places where tourists would not want to return to spend the same dollars for the same destination.

In short, tourists if they have to return to place, have to find something new they didn’t find in their first visit. This is a tip for Negros Oriental tourism stakeholders: will our tourist spots be worth a second visit? Did the tourists have a good time here? Are there places worth spending dollars for a second visit here? If none, then there is a big room for improvement because tourists who become familiar to the place, want to return if they have more fun when they come back.

So which countries and their nationalities came over in January to Dumaguete and Negros Oriental: City Tourism head Woodrow RR Maquiling released the breakdown of our visitors last month:

That is an occupancy rate of less than 39 %
    Booming tourism? Or over capacity?

Well, it seems every month a new hotel or resort opens, recently with the biggest hotel yet (250 rooms?).

I would call it wishful thinking, one only has to follow the news about the World situation at present to see that everything is getting more unstable, to believe that it's going to get better will be an illusion...

I wonder how they came up with accurate figures? Most businesses under report there income to save tax and the shipping companies don't usually keep accurate records so that they can over load the boat and make un reported income. As for flights coming in from Manila and Cebu, well that would be tough too.

Do hotel's and resorts have a special reporting form to specify who came from where?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the business practices here, I just don't see how such a detailed list could be as accurate as it is portrayed.

I must agree, and admit the same thing crossed my mind when I read it. We traveled in and out of Dumaguete several times in January using several methods of transportation, and din't fill out any form or statistical sheet anywhere, so how can they possibly claim to have such accurate statistics?

I have flown back and forth to Cebu and Manila several times, as an ID all that was required was my Philippine drivers license and don't remember and notation on the ticket as to where I'm from.

agree, I have never had to show a pass port while traveling to Duma within the Philippines.

As for returning if I was a tourist.... hmmm I might.. but I would probably want to explore different islands. maybe try and find one with less population,..hahah .... right.

The figures shown seem to be some sort of manipulation, given that there are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Dr. Goebbels would be proud of the propaganda system that operates here. Dumaguete is the recognised point of entry, by air and sea, to Neg Or. Even if the figures quoted were remotely accurate, those arrivals have not necessarily come to Dumaguete specifically and stayed here; they have arrived at Dumaguete, passed through, and gone onwards to other destinations.
