Hello I am planning rent villa in Dauin for 1 month. I need internet connection to read email, website browsing and voice communication(skype) Is any ISP company can arrange cable access to internet in Dauin? What is 3g/broadband provider better in Dauin? Smart or Globe? Is it enough for voice communication(skype)? Thank you for any advice... -Max
If you rent a villa, the least you can expect is that a butler and high speed internet is included. If not, you may look for a more moderate accommodation where internet is included because each wired internet connection comes with a 2 year contract
thank you for your response. but what ISP can provide wired connection in Dauin(with 2 year contract)? is it possible in Dauin? If you can pls give contacts of ISP
There is no wired internet connection possibility in Dauin. Your only choice is Smart. Delivered by old technology antenna. Sometimes it works well enough to read email. On a good night, you can actually login to this forum.
I would assume then Maluay/Malatapay area a little further South of Dauin would be even worse to gain signal via Smart even using a tall mounted Antenna? I am sending my old Laptop to my Girlfriend who lives in Maluay. The signal at the local Cafe in Maluay is close to non existent most days where she cannot even sign in to Yahoo to chat, yet in Zamboanguita, she can get a reasonably better signal at the Cafe there where we can open Cam, chat in Yahoo and share Videos etc while we talk... I was hoping if her Brother placed an Antenna on a tall Bamboo pole, on top of his Roof, which is a section built higher than the rest of the house, she may gain some sort of reliable signal where we can talk and hopefully then set up a way of communication so she can speak with her Family daily when she comes here to live. So only Smart provide the Internet Service around Zamboanguita to Dumaguete? What about using signal Boosters? Do they make any improvement to picking up signal in weak areas?
Max, Since you will be in a rented villa, the owner probably won't allow you to get this service. The owner would have to sign up for it him/her self. I would like to inform the fellas who have already responded to your inquiry, by informing everyone that there IS a new broadband ISP provider to Darwin..,..I am not sure if they cover Zambo area - you need to ask them directly about that. Try look for "Ted" - he's the owner, operator. If this link isn't correct, or working, you - or anyone else - are welcome to contact me directly and I will get you any needed corrected info. Hope this is of some help to you, and all / any members in Bacong, Dauin, Zambo area. Don light_ten_up@yahoo.com
If you're just visiting buy a USB stick when you get here (Globe Tattoo, Smart......i don't know the name but they have one similar). They work off the cell towers. You won't have great Internet but should be able to check your email. Remember you are visiting a 3rd world country. If you must have reliable internet I would highly suggest finding accommodations closer to dumaguete. Don't expect the owner of a villa to help you out too much, they just want your money with as little work as possible.
Before anyone invests in a USB stick from SmartBro, Globe, or any other provider MAKE SURE it will work in the area that they need it to! It does no good to listen to the promises of the provider and get stuck with the purchase of one of these devices if it doesn't get a signal in the area they are going to use it!
I believe there is actually no 100% way of making sure a USB stick will work in any area until you buy it and try it. None of the providers either have no idea what areas they will work in, or do not care to tell you.O-| If I am wrong here, please correct me, and explain exactly how the stick can be tested before purchase. Or, if it is purchased and does not work, how you can get a refund ????????????????????
The best way to try before you buy is to borrow one from a friend and take a laptop to the location you want to test it out in. Providers may tell you that "it should work there" or "will work there", but they are not always accurate. They will not refund your money either if it doesn't work!
