7,000 Jobs in Dumaguete??!!

It's Bisaya or Cebuano, not visaya. The government wants to call it Filipino not to offend anyone not of Tagalog ancestry but really its Tagalog (or TaGarbage is you speak the Manila variant).

As for the comment to leave if you don't like something here, I'm really tired of hearing that. Complete bullshit comment. If you can't see the validity of some of these complaints and see how making some changes could improve this country you are part of the problem. Throw that filipino pride out the window, you don't really have much to be proud of. I'm hear for cheap beer, cheap smokes and cheap women, you really don't have much else to offer that other countries don't do much better.

 

So you can't really learn "Visayan" then, you must learn one of the subdialects such as Cebuano or waray. Bisaya/Cebuano seem to be the most widely spoken and would be worth the effort. But learning waray, with less than 1 million speakers won't get you too far.

The term Filipino (concerning the language) is a political agreement so as not to offend non-tagalog people, there was a debate in manila over what the national language should be called, folks from anywhere other than the tagalog region didn't care too much for it being called tagalog. Everything you see on tv is Tagalog. People in manila are tagalog people. All tv shows are filmed in manila, they speak tagarbage on tv (but only when taking a break from crying on drama shows and chipmunk laughing on game shows). You can call it what you like though.

 

Would you mind sharing? Is it the wonderful medical facilities? The pristine trash free yellow....err I mean white beaches? The oh-so-clean waters? The property prices.....? The food with insane amounts of sugar/vinegar/garlic? The locals who take criticism so gracefully? The amazingly safe drivers? The vehicles so masterfully maintained? Please do share. I assume it has to do with a lovely woman (no sarcasm meant there). If you found one great for you, the good ones are few and far between though. Perhaps you're on a pension and want a better standard of living than you could get in your home country (perfectly acceptable). Wanted by the law in your home country? Ha.

There are other aspects I like about the Philippines, the 3 main I mentioned. There are a handful of filipino dishes I actual enjoy quite a bit. Most dishes are just survival food though. Some outdoor activities can be enjoyed if not polluted with filipino trash and feces (getting harder to find the more urbanization and overpopulation takes over the country). Cheap rental properties.......I'm struggling for more examples of what I like, I'm sure if I thought really hard I could name a few more.

 

I have posted many things here good about the Philippines. I have accepted their culture, their way of life, their way of business and politics. If I had a major problem here I Would go home. The good here outweigh the bad for me. So I think I'll stay awhile. What pisses me off is when people say if you don't like something go home. That's what inbred rednecks in the US say to foreigners. To that I say, "go f' yourself". There will be no exceptions here. In this country my freedom of speech does not exist, I accept that while out in the eye of the public, but that really doesn't apply online.
