treat them with respect and they will watch your helmet It can be a pain to carry your helmet, but many times I go to the same places and have gotten to become familiar with the parking attendants. I simply ask them to watch my helmet and hang in on the handle bars. I do a few special things to make our relationship better: A bottle of cold water from the Robinson's market for the attendent on a hot day yields a parking lot attendant for life. A ten peso tip instead of five pesos, has the Why Not guys watching for me to head for the door so they can get my bike ready. It does not take much to make these guys feel special, even sometime just a smile. The most usual request I got was for pampers from a fellow whose wife just had a baby the day before. How long will it take him to forget the foreigner who brought his baby pampers? When I drive into Robinson's we laugh as we hear "my Friend" shouted out and arms waving by the parking attendants to get my attention. Treat the attendants with respect and they will do almost anything for you. Giving a smile and a little extra special attention like asking about their kids goes a long way, and will get you that extra special attention too.
Why not use one of those Theft Guard security cables with a lock, and attach the helmets to the bike when you leave it unattended ?
I know an older local who just paints his helmets flat black and does a crappy job of it. If a thief wants to steal a helmet, it is more likely that they steal a nice looking one than a crappy looking one. He has never had a helmet stolen.
Yesterday I was at Rob, and tried to check a helmet inside a backpack at the grocery store... the guy said.. NO helmets can be checked here.. not even if there in a back pack.. wow! lol No wonder no one is wearing their helmets, such a pain to carry around. But.. "Dress for the crash, not for the ride"
Don't be so quick to "like" the post below. I lost my helmet tied to the bike parked by the beach, no attendant.
I remember that commercial! "If you have a 10 dollar head, wear a 10 dollar helmet, otherwise, buy a Bell!
There's a good chance I'm here thanks to a bell helmet!!!!! Several broken Bones, 8 hours under the knife and a big ding in the brain bucket.....
