I am wanting to build a small pond on some property in the province and am wanting to know what I should expect to pay. I am talking maybe 25x25 feet and about 4 feet deep. I just want to be able to raise some Talapia and Ulang for personal consumption, and to use the water for agricultural purposes.

There are too many variables to come up with an accurate price. Rocky soil? Clay soil? Sandy spoil? Flat? Hilly? Close to a road? Far from a road? Trees in the way? Is the land already cleared of vegetation? Location? There are a lot of aspect to building a proper pond besides just digging a hole in the ground and pouring water in it. If I calculated it correctly, you will need to move around 2684 cubic meters of dirt. Is it going to be a raised pond with berms or a hole in the ground? Where is all of this dirt going to go?

One piece of advice - make sure that the soil contains a large percentage of clay or your pond will empty almost as quickly as you fill it. For more information contact me directly or check out the links I have posted (towards the bottom of this page) regarding fish and ponds.

Good luck with your project and have fun!
