Anyone have the number of a decent attorney in Dumaguete? My GFs family has a bit of a land dispute. Basically they have been living on said land for 20+ years including built a house, there was no problem until after my GFs dad died. Last few months the "owner" who lives outside the Philippines has taken an interest in repossessing the land and kicking my GFs family off. Supposedly there was a verbal agreement when my GFs dad was still alive that the land was good for his family. Not sure who may be able to help. Have been recommended to the Dumaguete branch of the Commission of Human Rights and plan to call Monday (have no address though). Also wondering where one would get a copy of the deed and title of said property to make sure the owner is who is claiming to be the owner. To me it sounds as if the old owner years ago passed that land to my GFs dad but seems a lot of details are missing as usual. Thanks for any pointers or suggestions on an attorney for said issue. You can inspect the title at the registrar of deeds, which is upstairs down an alley across from freedom park. You can also go check out who has been paying the taxes on the land by going to the municipal assessor's office. I have no recommendations on an attorney. Larry

My wife had the same problems. It seems that a majority of property arrangements there are through verbal agreements...Its been resolved now but the issues were within the family so it went smooth. Nevertheless, I advised everything in writing and registered. Good luck.
Thanks for the replies. I gave my GFs the number to the attorney and have been scolding them to actually try and talk to an attorney. Hopefully will get resolved without me having to directly get involved which isn't a good thing and I really don't want to (besides pay a little to the attorney if needed).
I think if you have a deed that signed by the original owner or having any document that support your ownership than why not you file for that.Because its doesn't matter that he go in court and do all the things that it was his property.
