Anyone with a garden know what measures to take / stuff to use if you are regularly confronted with ant communities and subsequent ant hills in your garden? Baygon and hot water will only kill the grass, so that's no option and generally only scares them a bit but not enough. Vicmico
If you are a "green boy" go for ant chalk also known as Chinese chalk. If you really want to get rid of the ants, try Termite X a liquid that you can spray (after diluting it with water) Both product are for sale in most hardware stores. (Matiao has Termite x)
Borax powder..available at Lee plaza..Google for how to use ..also search for old threads in Dgte info...Miguel
Done that but the majority of these threads dealt with ants in the house, and I was hoping that there would be something else but Borax available.... Vicmico
If you're talking about termites, they're the ones making antheaps, than you're in for some work. I dig away the heap en excavate so far as to opening up the under ground network of creep way's and try to find the queen mite. If she is destroyed than this area will be completely free of ants for a long time. Before closing up spray a lot of anti termite solution on the whole excavation and repeat that (after closing) on the new surface. I had a lot of termites on my property. Spend lot of time and money to get rid of them underground ones but still have them here and there.
Thanks for the info, Mokum. I hope I will be able to keep the ants under control without digging up the whole garden - I just laid 60 sq. mtrs. of grass and I don't want to do that again (not at my age anymore...). Although the 'hills' (they are rather small) appear on the perifery of the lawn, digging the nest out will only be the last resort. I don't mind some ant activity in the plant beds as it doesn't seem to harm or bother the plants themselves, but I hate the untidy look of dry soil heaps in the lawn area. Vicmico
