That is a pity. A young life damaged to the point that the young man is going to take a hand in ending his own life. I never thought that GW Bush was the greatest thing to come down the pike.

The thing I most wonder about was that Obama ran in his first presidential election years ago on the bring our boys hope plank, he had both the senate and the house of representatives, why didn't he bring them home? I wonder when this young man was so horribly wounded, might it have been avoided if Obama had kept his promise? I was discharged from the service in 92, I had a nephew who served in Iraq as an Apache helicopter mechanic. I have another nephew about to enter the military, his choice. I would like Obama alot better if he did what he said he would do in this instance. I would like Joe Biden if he were a cheaper date and not staying in 5 star hotels in the UK and Europe to the tune of 1 million US $ per week when the country is broke. Leave the minibar and fridge alone Joe.

Honestly, you are never forced to join the military. It is completely voluntary in the US. Sorry for the guy but he signed up with the military. Part of that is taking the risk of being seriously injured and having to listen to your countries politicians. I hate hearing soldiers blaming their injuries on the politicians/officers that ordered them to the war/conflict.

It's the same as if you had a car accident at the base you were newly assigned to and saying the human resources commander was responsible for the wreck. You signed the contract, you serve your country, you follow orders of the officers appointed over you, as a soldier you can only complain/question about said orders in your head.

I didn't actually read the article, hopefully I'm somewhat on track with my comments.

Ok, read the article. He seems to be bitter about his injuries, and I can't say I wouldn't have the same attitude though. Many people look to place blame on other people for their injuries. Sounds like he found those people.

Wrye, I have to agree with you, there are alot of people who signed up for the GI bill for college tuition. Does no one ever think why they have to offer such inducements? It's not because the hours suck, the working conditions are deplorable, you can run into that working at McDonalds, it's because you can wind up dead or worse than dead evidently. Some people have uneventful enlistments and others have stories to tell.

The main thing I find interesting is what he said about Bush and Cheney and their "alleged" military fopars !

Does anyone know if what he says is true.?

No one has commented on that yet ?

Well that's because all of the things he mentioned are mostly pure speculation/conspiracy/up to political beliefs.

I personally believe it was a combination of several things that caused the Iraq war. Bush's/Cheaney's personal grudge for an assassination attempt on Bush Sr/interests in oil proceeds/stake in private contracting companies, bad intelligence of the weapons status concerning Saddam, overzealous intelligence officers, wide support from the Senate/citizens stemming from the 9/11 attacks and military contracting companies obvious financial gain from another conflict.

Your comments there sound very reasonable.

It was not only Bush and Rumsfeld that pushed it, bloody Blair from the UK, and that idiot Howard from Australia went along with it.

AND, unfortunately that act of the USA and its cronies going it alone against Iraq, effectively made the UN totally null and void, and that, is a major pity, IMHO.:(

Because the UN was against any action of war to Iraq.

Btw: one of the burdens of being an officer in the US military (which Bush, and in certain situations Cheaney, is) is that your orders can end up killing causing death to your soldiers. If on a mission your soldiers die, you, as the officer, are not held accountable for their death (although I'm sure you personally will have some sort of moral dilemma), unless gross neglect was taken by the officer. Again, this falls back to the volunteering part of the military. The oath you take prior to leaving explains what to expect and what is required of you.

To hold officers personally responsible for every death would completely undermine the entire way an efficient military works. While I do understand the president is held to a much higher standard than most officers, he is still a military officer. Going to war or a conflict almost certainly requires death from both sides. If the president is a murderer so is the entire US population and Senate. Downside of a democracy is that no one person can be entirely blamed for the state of the country. The majority of the country voted for them.
