Rodwell, an Australian, one of the several kidnap victims in Mindanao, was freed by his captors after they received $93,000 ransom

I wonder why either or both, the Australian Govt and Philippine govt did not send in special forces to free all the hostages, I believe several captives are being kept there. Not sure of the other Nationalities.

Surely the leaders of the Countries of the Nationals captured could get together and form a strike force to get those kidnappers.?

Maybe the Israelis or the Algerians could have been hired.............:D:smile::cool: to do the job. Both those guys get results.

Wrong message to send to kidnappers, that a ransom can be paid.

    bad news:(

Maybe a little locator sent with that $93K. Happy Mr Rodwell is now free. I am sure the special opps of the phils and US are doing their best to Free the remaining victims. Best luck to them.

Well, if doing their best is taking 15 months, it is a real worry mate.:(

One of the real problems is allowing the media to run with the story of the ransom being paid.

However, I hope you are right and there is a tracking device implanted, and the story of the ransom payment being made so public is a ruse to relax the kidnappers into a false sense of security, that would be good.

Backtracking the serial number of the bills could lead to the rounding up of not only the kidnappers but their financial assets/connections as well.
If the boys at the top are using their heads in a plan like that, it would seem like the whole group could be exposed and rounded up.
Which wouldn't be a bad investment for less then 100K.

I sure hope somebody has a plan.

If only you are correct, great ideas there.

Then when it is done, and all the kidnappers are either arrested, or probably killed because they will resist, then the media can broadcast the facts to the world, that maybe, maybe, will deter others from trying.? We can only hope.

Not much will deter kidnapping. As long as there is poverty there will be crime. I don't see poverty coming to an end here anytime soon. It doesn't matter how many kidnappers you catch, there will always be another one that says, "I can do it better" (rather they can or not, poverty leads to ignorance, ignorance leads to poverty, vicious cycle it be).

Whose benefit is it in the Philippines to stop them?

But if all the people involved with the kidnappers were arrested, would it surprise anyone if there was no local police force left to catch other criminals?

These are not political crimes, but economic crimes. Even as reported in the newspapers it it questionable why 7 million was paid, but the kidnappers take was only 4 million. Lots of connected people are making money on these type of deals, so they most likely will never be a true effort to stop them. Whose benefit is it in the Philippines to stop them?

Seven million Pesos is a lot more money than most OFWs send home over their life time, and most of the paid ransom was most likely generated overseas. So it is just like OFW money except the workers are locally based.

If the Philipines government can not or will not try to control a local rogue Sultan, how are is it going to really try to control these financial rogues who pay off everyone around them?
