The thread about the guys gf who was afraid of earthquakes in Dumaguete made me think about this thread. Have any of you guys had to cancel trips to an island, such as Siquijor, because of your partners fears of monsters in the area? Recently I was up in Luzon and met some girls and invited them down for a visit to Dumaguete but not before teasing their fears of the Capri, wokwok and witches in Dumaguete. This backfired and completely shut down any idea they might have had of actually coming down, even with me doling out the cash for a flight. I only know of the three monsters (wakwak/wokwok, Capri and witches) and what they do. The Capri being the least threatening from my understanding of what they do, smoking in trees doesn't seem to threatening to me, if he gets a bit crazy maybe it's because he's out of smokes and you can just let him bum one. Wakwak is a little demon child if I'm correct and we should all know what witches are. Has anyone here heard of anymore of the monsters these girls are so terrified of?

When my wife first moved to the US I had a large home in New England with several acres of trees. Filipina's that we met would come over to visit. They were always afraid of the Ugta's in the trees though I never saw them. Made my wife keep a Santa Nino in the house to protect them. First time I visited my wife's family in Leyte the village was infested with NPA (New People's Army). They would steal chickens and demand rice walking around with AK47's. They seemed to give me wide berth. One night I went down to where they were camped out and threw fireworks into their cooking fire and made an awful holler. They moved away the next morning. Sometimes it's fun to take advantage of superstitions. My wife did not want me to visit her uncle because his family were vampires. I had to see the vampires and went over their house. They had tuberculosis, no longer contagious but the effects of the disease were apparent. After 23 years I thought that all of her superstitions were gone, until a couple of months ago. The room that we had on Panglao Island was haunted because someone was tapping on her leg. Nobody was tapping my leg. Then she would not let me go to Siquijor, afraid that I would get in an argument with the Macbabaran. Probably would have.
