Great comment traveler, Arizona where i live has the ccw permit and i have taken the course and it is quite comprehensive. I have requalified several times and the course was always given bu the Glendale Arizona police department.
Hi Steve there is a book that I read years ago that chronicles the deportation experience called. The Fatal Shore: History of the Transportation of Convicts to Australia, 1787-1868. { still on Amazon } Fascinating stuff, I recall that it mentions that so called convicts were in the beginning transported to both the US & Australia, & then for some reason to just Australia. Its a great read About an incredibly hard land to conquer, Most so called convicts were in fact just sent there to become abject slaves to the English settlers provided by the Courts of the UK . That's of course if they survived the voyage to there ,which would take up to 9 months from the UK...
Thanks Roadking. I will check and see if it is in our local library. Yes in those days, one could be sent to prison for debt payment, just like the Phils now!! Also laws were very severe in jolly old England so that one could get sent to jail for what we call minor offenses. Poaching the Kings deer or other fauna could get one in real trouble.
Tomcat: you may enjoy "surfing" this site about the proceedings of the Old Bailey in London, especially the crimes listed and the punshment meted out. Results - Central Criminal Court
Did the book say why they didn't sail a little further south where it wasn't so d*mn cold and food a bit more plentiful? They certainly knew of more hospitable places to live than the north east prior to Columbus' arrival. View attachment 9217 Instead of enslaving/killing/stealing land of the natives perhaps they should have asked them how they survived first.
My sympathies are with the grieving family, of course. I am sure that the surviving five children of the murdered prosecutor and his wife suffered a great personal loss from the heinous crime perpetrated; however, I am confident that at least one of his sons, a Dallas cop, is in full agreement with the Texas legislatures' decision on ” shall carry statutes”. The comfort and closure they will receive is the capture and disposition of the CRIMINALS who committed the act, not the destruction of the gun that was the instrument of the crime. Can you actually believe that a criminal organization like the Aryan Brotherhood would be deterred from their actions if there was more gun control??? Let’s not confuse this tragedy with the main problem---CRIMINAL CONTROL, not gun control!!! The Aryan Brotherhood is no respecter of laws, nor stranger to violence---otherwise, why would they be incarcerated??? If a person chooses not to protect themselves or their family with a firearm, they are FREE to do so, but have no RIGHT to prevent the rest of us from protecting our family from criminals or a tyrannical government, as clearly stated in the 2nd Amendment. Our Founding Fathers were not ignorant of the “darker side” of human nature, hence the inalienable right to protect ourselves from it—should we so choose. You may find this site interesting reading: What happened when Guns were banned in Australia! From the inception of firearm confiscation (in Australia) to March 27, 2000, the numbers are: • Firearm-related murders were up 19% • Armed robberies were up 69% • Home invasions were up 21% The sad part is that in the 15 years before the national gun confiscation: • Firearm-related homicides dropped nearly 66% • Firearm-related deaths fell 50% Myth: Gun control in Australia is curbing crime Fact: Crime has been rising since enacting a sweeping ban on private gun ownership. In the first two years after Australian gun-owners were forced to surrender 640,381 personal firearms, government statistics showed a dramatic increase in criminal activity. In 2001-2002, homicides were up another 20%. Myth: Countries with strict gun control have less crime Fact: Many of the countries with the strictest gun control have the highest rates of violent crime. Australia and England, which have virtually banned gun ownership, have the highest rates of robbery, sexual assault, and assault with force of the top 17 industrialized countries.
Good point!!! Actually the pilgrims were pretty desperate by the time they saw land!! They did a little exploration but because they got a late start from England they didnt have much time to spare. They had to get on with the settlement. Only a few years passed before a new colony was started in what is now Boston. It became much more prosperous and finally absorbed the Plymouth Colony. The history of the interaction between the Pilgrims was filled with misunderstanding, lack of common language and duplictious conduct on both sides. The indians had been at war with each other since the begining and somtime the colonist were the victims and sometimes the aggressors. ONe of the indians (Squanto) spoke English and helped the Pilgrims a great deal but he had his own agenda and was trying to become and chief and over throw the local chief. so???? Interestingly there is some evidence the the Vikings may have been that far south even before the Pilgrims.
Point # 1. amazing to see how you are trying to get the concentration away from the USA gun problems in any way you can ? #2. Those figures you are showing are undoubtably incorrect, and probably issued by the NRA, and only up to the year 2000, what happened to all the other years up to 2013 ? Maybe they were all the good years you neglected to mention ? #3. Yesterday, on CNN - GPS John Howard, the former Prime Minister of Oz, who implemented Austs new gun laws back then, was interviewed. He was invited to come onto the show, to comment on the issue of Gun reform in Australia and its effects. He did not mention any statistics, but CNN did, and they were a heck of a lot more positive than the stuff you just mentioned, and Howard was asked how he was able to achieve such a wonderful result ? I suggest you get onto CNN website and check it out mate.................. and cancel your NRA membership............. lol ...................
