many take it for granted sad but true, did you serve Brian? i was a war baby so all i did was was 3 months national service lucky i guess
Hell no my mum was a war child so I was very luck, my older bro missed out on nasho by 1 day for Vietnam
Thanks to all of you who served, not only Nam , but to your parents and grandparents who served in WWII. For those of you in the Phils, i would highly recommend a trip to Manila and a tour of Corrigidore Island. It is a experience you will never forget.
My dad was with the US Marines during WWII. He landed in Leyte before MacArthur, then they sat and watched the movie camera's set up and the the dignitaries land. He and the rest of the Marines wandered into Tacloban and got drunk on tuba. I saw a picture of him in the "Stars and Stripes" holding up a sign that read "With the help of God and a handful of marines MacArthur retook the Philippines." He told me after the MacArthur group drove into town and saw the sign they sent the marines back on the ships not to touch ground again until Iwo Jima.
God bless your father!!! I love that sign!! Nothing like sticking it into MacArthur! He was one of the worst generals we have ever had, HIs only saving grace was that he was married to a Fillippina. Is y our father still alive? I hope u write down those stories. That generation is almost gone and we need the verbal history.
Tomcat, Sadly he left us two years ago. But all his stories live on with myself and 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Ten grandchildren saying yeh yeh grampa told us that story .... at least 20 times.
