HuffPost Live South Carolina's state House passed a “nullification” bill on Wednesday declaring President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act “null and void” and makes it’s implementation a crime. 10th Amendment The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
I am always a bit mystified by the UNITED STATES country title, when it seems that the whole country has different laws from state to state. What is United about that , Not trolling just trying to understand. the above Obama care is the latest example. Another important one of course is corporal punishment, In one state you can get the death penalty & another, barely life imprisonment why ?
Simply put, each state has a different environment, people, and way of life. Federal law does trump state and local law, though.
well that should not have anything to do with it, I come from the UK & the law of the land is generic throughout the whole country. I don't see what environment & people have to do with it. again just trying to understand the rationale here, It is the difference in some states of life & death after all...
I agree to some extent and the dealth penalty is serious business, but state laws allow for choice. Obviously, this can have both positive and negative implications. If you don't agree with the state laws, find another state that suits your mindset/needs.
I see you mention SC. Do you have any connection to SC? I shall be visiting Dumaguete in October and November, and hopefully again in 2014. I may even consider relocating from the UK. I have a good friend who I shall be seeing when I come over. By the way, my connection to SC is that my family came from Charleston, SC. In fact my ancestor was among the first settlers to the colony in 1679. Perhaps we may meet up when I'm in Dumaguete.
