I think I have finally figured out who has the right-of-way driving here. Not sure of the order of the list though. a. who has the largest vehicle b. who has the lowest I.Q. c. who is the least sober d. who cares less about their head I try to always yield because I doubt the others will...
Driving fun in the Philippines Anyone interest in a "community purchase" a large military type vehicle that would have no distinguishing or identifying marks, and would be repainted every day after being used to clean the streets at night of categories b, c, & d, and possibility "a" if they were smaller than purchased vehicle. We could have "more fun in the Philippines." We could switch drivers each night based on the amount of abuse you had received the previous day by local drivers. We could have have "more fun in the Philippines."..... Just a thought... lol
Actually pretend not to see the other driver, that seems to be the go here, bit like the pedestrians that walk in front of a 2 ton vehicle and turn their back while walking diagonally across the road, I think 2 tons will win every time.
Or drive like a lunatic and honking the horn like an ambulance, surely everyone gets out of your way :-)
The actual legal "Right of Way" in the Philippines is not what most of us are used to. Basically, for "ALL" uncontrolled intersections (except private roads) the person in the intersection "first" has the right of way. The way Dumaguete police investigators interpret this Act is: If the front of your vehicle hits the side of the other vehicle, it is your fault. If he or she hits the side of your vehicle, it is his fault. It doesn't matter if you are traversing a side road or National Highway. Also, pedestrians always have the right of way in intersections, even if they are brain dead. Although this means that all drivers would have to slow to a crawl for all these unmarked intersections, that is the law here. I have attached the section from Republic Act 4136, The Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
A friend of mine was cleaned up in Bacon on the national hwy on his M/C, the old fella who hit him was coming out from a side street, the law as is you must yield to traffic on the national hwy, the old fella was not registered no helmet, so he cops 3 infringements
