It has not happened for a while, but two nights ago I gave a fella a lift.
As he got out of the car he said thanks and tapped away on the roof, just something that annoys me.
The other thing I cannot understand, is when people kick their tyres, as if they can tell, if there is enough air in them. as Maggie Thatcher once said "It's a funny old World. (Love me, love my car.)

LOL, agree with you on the tire kicking, actually haven't seen anyone do that in a while though.

I still DO find lots of folks do the "roof tap" thing. To be fair, I think the original intent was to let the driver know, "I'm safely out of the vehicle, you can proceed without worry of running over my foot." But for many, it's definitely evolved into just a "bye-bye"

Speaking of car-related annoyances, I've got a neighbor a couple of blocks over (more an acquaintance than a close friend). Whenever he passes my house he beep-beeps with his horn to say "hello". Drives the dog crazy, which in turn wakes up the sleeping wife who works in nursing on the night shift.

Back in the day when I was a diesel mechanic, I would ogcasionally mount up 20 or thirty truck tires/tyres at a time and since there was no telling how long they would sit around before being installed, it was useless to inflate them precisely. I would put a little extra air in them. From having checked thousands of them, I could tell if they were inflated enough without resorting to a tire guage. Truck drivers often have a tire "thumper" to assist in telling if a tire is sufficiently aired up that it won't overheat and blow out. Most truck drivers do not care how a tire wears, they just care if it is going to blow out and inconvenience them, unless they own the rig and pay for the tires. The tire thumper may be optional in resolving disagreements. I also never used a cage when airing up a tire, even those that had been retreaded several times and never had one blow out on me because I always put one hand on the tire and if I felt any of the wires break, I stopped and let the air out. If someone wanted to use that tire, that was their business not mine. When you consider the cost of road service, you could have bought a new tire and the road service person will sell you a tire of questionable history anyway if you don't have a spare. Sorry, didn't mean to write a book, just needed something for my hands to do while I thought about something else.

Yep, we have a similar problem with taxi drivers who choose to sit outside and press the horn, than knock on the door, especially if one is on nights.

John, our taxi drivers are more considerate, they give us a miss call on the phone we used to phone them.

Always said they are Posh in Manchester, then again Jim, I might be a little out of date. It's the wife who mostly uses them, if I'm not available!
