I am new to Forum, my name is Tim...I would like to hear thoughts and facts on the new Helper Law to be enacted from anyone. As I read it, the minimum wage for Dumaguete will now be p2500, the SSS payment monthly will be 10.7% of 2500, and Philhealth will be p1800 per year payable monthly. Any thoughts and comments regarding the other provisions like, Employee Contracts is greatly apreciated. I have had a helper now 4 years but I am trying to understand exactly how things will work...THANKS in advance for your comments!
Hi Tim Welcome to the forum. Having had a helper for 4 years, I would of though you would be the one we should be asking for advice!
Hi John Boy...I have downloaded and researched the law quite a bit but I am just wondering what the concensous is of other foreigners. I have never used a contract with my helper. I have always paid her well above what the others get. But I think if I keep her and I will lower her wage and then pay the SSS and Philheath to equal what she get's now which is still above what the others get. It's my opinion that alot of helpers will in fact be hurt by the legislation. If a guy has multiple helpers then he may let some go.
I think you have misread or misunderstood at least one portion of the law, the minimum wage allowable. From Republic act 10361, the “Domestic Workers Act” or “Batas Kasambahay”; "SEC 24. Minimum Wage. – The minimum wage of domestic workers shall not be less than the following: (a) Two thousand five hundred pesos (P2,500.00) a month for those employed in the National Capital Region (NCR); (b) Two thousand pesos (P2,000.00) a month for those employed in chartered cities and first class municipalities; and (c) One thousand five hundred pesos (P1,500.00) a month for those employed in other municipalities." Source; http://www.gov.ph/2013/01/18/republic-act-no-10361/ Depending on where exactly you live in this area, the minimum wage is either P1500 or P2000 per month. This not not the National Capital Region (NCR). Larry
Sure is... As to your question, i pay our helpers 3,000pesos a month but it depends on them if they will pay their sss or not because when i asked them, they ask me not to so i thought ill just pay them higher wage than normal and i think thats the right thing to do afterall its not an easy job.
Ok, I live near Sibulon...I will reread it and figure out the best setup. I have paid her well over the minimum but I think now it will be a package deal. Overall I think this law hurts the helpers. Thanks for the reply!
i've been frequenting pi for 11 years...had a place in cebu city and moved to duma about 5 years ago. i like the easy access to the ocean unlike cebu where it was at least a 30 minute ride or more. i enjoy a round of golf with good buds.
