I know I need a facelift but the following would not have been much of an improvement. I'm on my bike on south highway approaching a large parked truck stopped half on and half off the road. Good thing I had my radar on because the bird turd driver decides to open his door while my I'm very close to passing him. Fortunately, I only go a close shave. which I didn't need.
That is a two-way street (pun intended). People in cars need to be diligent and cautious when opening a door. Likewise, folks on bikes should not be riding close enough to a parked vehicle that they might hit an open door. There should be common sense observed by all.
At times, it is not that simple. When a large truck is part way into your lane and there are vehicles coming toward you from the other direction, the passage is narrow. Common sense is for the driver of the parked truck to look into his rear view mirror and only open the door if one is approaching.
Seems simple to me...the bike rider should stay BEHIND the vehicles, or STOP AND WAIT until it is safe to pass by, like other cars and trucks here are "supposed" to do. But, of course, I forget that bike riders (or local drivers with no driver's training) are in a hurry and do not have to adhere to rules or use common sense here.
You know it doesn't really matter if they are driving a car or motorcycle. They are idiots behind the wheel of anything. Crossing the street on foot safely is above comprehension of most locals.
