on very long lease (10-30 years) and building a house on that?

Seems counterproductive to buy land when you don't actually own what you buy and if you get on your Filipina partner's wrong side, you 'investment' can disappear.

When my parents had the restaurant business, we rented a 500 sqm lot across the shipyard and we paid 8,000 pesos just for the land and we built the building but in the contract after 7 years the landlord will get to own the building but still the same rental agreement which is 8,000 pesos a month. so try to have a look around, there might be someone there that would agree. but since you plan on building your house, if you have some disagreement with your wife lets say, what do you plan on doing with the house?let the landlord deal with it?

I forgot to add, the building structure that we had was only semi-concrete semi-native this way we are sure that in about 7 years we get our capital back (on what we put in the building plus profit). so if you decide to do an agreement like this and protect yourself in the long run, don't build anything enormous or expensive because more than likely you wont get to own it unless you make up another agreement with the landlord lets say, rent to town type where you build your place then after 10-20 years you will get to own the lot.

Well the IDEA is to write the lease such as I cannot be kicked off the property and get to occupy the house for the duration, but I realize I might just have to give the house to her if things go wrong, hence a native house, which often falls apart in 10 years anyways. How did you find your lot again?

We are just going into our second ten year lot lease. First lease was P1000/month, second lease is P1200. We built a semi native (hollow block/nipa) house for about P100,000. Basic but comfortable. Lease is transferable.
