    June 7, 2013

FEDERAL AGENCY LIAISON - IRS REMINDS THOSE WITH FOREIGN ASSETS OF U.S. TAX OBLIGATIONS

THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES IS TRANSMITTING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION THROUGH THE EMBASSY WARDEN SYSTEM AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO AMERICAN CITIZENS IN THE PHILIPPINES. PLEASE DISSEMINATE THIS MESSAGE TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS IN YOUR ORGANIZATION OR NEIGHBORHOOD.

On May 23, 2013, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued a news release to remind U.S. citizens and resident aliens, including those with dual citizenship who have lived or worked abroad during all or part of 2012, that they may have a U.S. tax liability and a filing requirement in 2013. For such taxpayers who reside overseas, their form 1040 Individual Tax Return is due by June 17. Depending on the taxpayer's personal situation, Form 8938, Statement of Foreign Financial Assets, may also be due (attached to their form 1040). Depending on the balance maintained in a foreign bank account, a taxpayer may also need to file a form TD F 90-22.1, Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) by June 30, 2013.

These reminders are addressed in the IRS News Release found at IRS Reminds Those with Foreign Assets of U.S. Tax Obligations. More details may be found at Internal Revenue Service.

I will have my own celebration. It took 3 years and a month but I finally received a problematic refund check from the IRS for a large overpayment in 2009. Bad/Good news is once they audit you and find problems they put you on their turd list; good news is I no longer have income or have to pay taxes.

Ah, I see. I am currently up in Angeles celebrating for the EXACT same reason you planning your celebration. A 2 mil tax return makes for quite a good time up here. Screw the IRS.

Ah, international justice mission. Seems they recently opened an office in Cebu. They apprehended 100 or so smugglers there. Amazingly all the girly bars in Cebu are still open. Bill Gates can go suck it. Prostitution is the oldest occupation known to "man". I doubt it will change anytime soon.
