nice_sherwood, Thanks for the reply. That one looks great but I'm sure it didn't last long, the good ones never do...
theres always one around, just keep an eye on rush sales and dont rush, problems start when you rush things. Goodluck with your search. If i find one, ill let you know.
Dre is the guy in Cebu I use. He gets his bikes mainly from auctions in Vegas. I can imagine he gets them VERY cheap at auctions in that city. If you make nice with him he can get you pretty much anything you need for a bike and will ship it anywhere in the country. His accessories are a bit pricy but if you're in a bind, or don't want to deal with shipping it from the US, it's an option. A big plus for me is that his English is very good and understands exactly what you're asking for. Also, he has often gave me advice on what I could do to fix a bike on my own without having to bring it to the shop.
Ive heard that theyre fairly reasonable. I havent been there for a long time though. I dont know if much has changed.
I would only call it reasonable prices for the Philippines. Used bikes, and cars, come very cheap in the US, they seem to hold value here for some reason. I understand bikes holding a bit more value as you can ride year round here, unlike the US where many places only get 4-5 months a year where you can ride comfortably. Sports bikes are the worst here though, seems they never really depreciate in value. As for his prices, from what I've seen he seems to be about 20 percent cheaper than Dumaguete on most of his bikes. I have never bought one from him, I mainly use his mechanics. He's got a kid in there that really knows his stuff.
My dad used to do the same when he had his harley. The used vehicles in duma are very overpriced its better to buy new than the used ones unless you can find a rush sale where a foreigner is leaving the country and need to dispose it immediately and yes i believe drei has some good mechanics but i dont know about the kid your talking about, i havent seen one when i went there but that was like ages ago so might be a new guy. Good for you. Finding a good mechanic here is like digging for gold lol
There are two brothers, one washes the bikes, the other is a mechanic. I'd say they were 16 and 20 years old. Dre has also offered to send the mechanic here if I needed repairs done, I just had to pay for the bus and put him up for the stay (and pay for the hours worked of course). His bikes are up near Capital, the mechanic shop is closer to the Waterfront at a private residence.
