Don't get me wrong, on many occasions I also took a night ferry (Cagayan de Oro - Ilo Ilo; Cebu - Dumaguete; Cagayan de Oro - Bohol and Cagayan de Oro - Dumaguete) the main reason, no direct flights between those cities except for Cebu - CDO. A boat trip can be more relaxed when time doesn't matter while surcharge for extra luggage isn't common as far as I know. Superjet fast ferry however does. Do bear in mind to check the history track of the shipping company, though Sulpicio no longer operates under that name they still exists. Travelling by ferry in the PH is a kind of Russian roulette. A few days ago another ferry got shipwrecked. So what ever will be the choice of your transport most important to arrive safe & sound.

True! For that very reason I hope I am never stuck with travelling by ferry as my only option!

The night ferries are our favorite way to travel, however, come morning we are ready to get off. Our daytime hours are generally much too busy to consider lazing around reading books. Even years ago when vacationing in the Philippines, laying in a hotel reading a book was not on my list of "things to do" at all.

It was confirmed to Me by a 2G0 Rep. thru an email response a couple of weeks ago that the Mnl-Duma had been discontinued indefinately. Kinda sucks because I was looking forward to getting a State Room on the Ship the next time I come to Duma instead of flying down there....Cheers

Cebu is just as close as Bacolod, also if you are that nuts about ferries, you can get a ferry there as well rather than a bus.

Well, me myself also search the answer for the same question as the sender's. You know Larry, If you are really a "lumad" Dumagueteno but is out of Dumaguete for a very long time, you will also be asking the same question. Because what we used to know is that Dumaguete is the Centerpoint when it comes to Seaport in the whole Negros Oriental ( well, maybe that was before).

My reason for searching the answer of the sender's Q is that, flying now with Cebu Pacific is only good for those who doesn't have check-in baggages. But I need to bring with me pasalubongs for my family (big electronics) so flying is out of the question.

I understand your point, but unless you are bringing home a LOT of goods, it may be worth while to rethink it (or maybe not).

Cost boat to Bacolod Cabin P1650, economy P1380 (Why be uncomfortable for 24 hours for P300 difference?)
Taxi from pier to bus terminal P100
Bus to Dumaguete P250 (additional if lots of luggage)
You will be two full days traveling, ya gotta eat P400

Cost P2400. You have a 24 hour boat ride followed by a 7 hour bus ride. You will arrive totally worn out. It would take me at least a day to recover.

    VS.

    Cebu Pacific,

Fare, with added P250 for 20 kilos luggage, in addition to your carry on P2425. You arrive in one hour. You can purchase additional baggage at about P50 per kilo.

This was figured for a July 4 travel date, airfares will be cheaper if you can book a few more days out.

If you have that much baggage you best figure on paying for porter help (not cheap) getting on/off the boat.

Your mileage may vary, but my time is worth more than the little bit of difference in cost.

Oh, and the only places you can get to on one boat from Duma are now Tagbilaran, Cebu, Siquijor, and Dapitan.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. But anyway, Lar, are you familiar on Cebpac's prepaid baggage allowance? A friend of mine here said that their (Cebpac) policy on their baggage purchase doesn't include TV check-in, i mean, they won't take responsibility with what will happen on your TV baggage. Is that true?

No, I can't answer that. If it's packed properly it should be ok, we see people with TVs and electronics all the time.

How about the porters at the pier, do you think they are going to be willing to be responsible for your TV? Taxi? How about the bus? I would say the chances of getting anything for damages out of CebPac would be about the same or better than the porters or the bus lines. The ride that is the least bouncing/time/exposure-to-moisture for you, is most likely easier on your TV as well.

Just my thoughts, you mileage may vary.
