Take this for what it is worth. I did receive this message from the mayor's office and was encouraged to share: " Important message: " we have an initial report on abu sayaf group who underwent training in tawi tawi and camp darapanan, and will spread terrrorism in dumaguete city, bacolod city, and cebu city as part of their test mission. About 15 members of the group sent to this area and are now based in lapu lapu city in a safehouse. Just want to advise all to be extra careful esp in crowded areas". If anyone hears or knows anymore, please share!
I have actually been surprised there hasn't been more of this given the proximity to the problem areas. Another possible reason to go check out Iloilo.
Please try to avoid places with mix crowd(local & expats) such as department stores, restaurants, bars & groceries store. Such kind of terminators wants to be heard widely. grrrrrr!
If they kill people they win. If they scare people from going out and shopping or having fun, they win. These people should be dealt with harshly.
Dumaguete and Dauin have always been a prime target for the Abu Sayaf. A few years back a military raid on an Abu Sayaf safe house in Zamboanga yielded intelligence including detailed maps of Dumaguete City and Dauin Resorts with notes indicating where foreigners like to hang out. In particular Coco Amigos, Why Not and Honeycomb were circled out with notations that foreigners were plentiful there. The military was able to thwart those plans and with subsequent operations caught and killed several more ASG rebels who were supposed to carry out the operations. Foreign owned establishments were secretly secured and several military safe houses were set up in Dauin without anyone ever knowing Lately the PNP and AFP are on heightened alert all over Negros Oriental with check points every where. The Navy and Coast Guard have increased patrols around the coast. The other day there were two PH Navy patrol boats in Amlan that had just docked after a weeks patrol according to the officer they had another boat still at sea. The Abu Sayaf Group or ASG did a daring kidnap of a rich mestiso sugar planter from Bais, who had a beach house in Dauin and kept him hostage for almost 2 years. They came by high speed bancas and kidnapped him from his beach house in broad day light. This was in the 1980's.

Wilfredo Isaac, 11 th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday condemned what he called an “inhuman act” of the NPA, who murdered the victim inside a church. “ This only shows that the sustained military operations in the Negros Island have made the NPAs desperate to get back at the government," Isaac added. Just bought the book "In the Presence of my Enemies", the story of the kidnapping of Martin and Gracia Burnham, back in 2001, I read the book already when it came out in 2003, if somebody wants to borrow it, he/she can PM me, you will have to pay me 150Php, as a safety deposit...
Thanks for that heads-up. It is surprising they have not targeted Dumaguete previously since there are so many foreigners here. This means staying away as much as possible from crowded places where rich foreigners or other people in power gather Most terrorist groups tend to favor the rich and connected in their plans, not the poor.
Rich foreigners? Lol what dumaguete are you living in? Are you that silly new foreigner that took the bouncer position at Sizzlers for 200 a day and claiming to be special forces? If not you should go check the place out, your personalities seem to mesh perfectly.
