Negros Oriental Science High School is the best state-run school in the province and its students can compete against any local schools mentioned in this thread, including their peers from abroad.

I've had the opportunity to meet and interact with many of their "regular" students and I was left impressed. They're probably a year or two ahead against their local peers when it comes to educational skills. The teachers are passionate about their mission, and don't just consider it as just a job.

The challenge is having your child accepted in their school system. Very limited slots, highly competitive examinations, and staying in is harder than getting in.

Dumaguete is a small place, so understandably your choices are limited. Cebu is another matter altogether.

Yup, I was told the same. And also, we were instructed to stay away from protestants, not have them as friends. Ever experience the ruler to the knuckles? Or to the side of the head? Fun stuff.

Hehehe. We were told to stay away from Catholics because their families were too big to fight with. Kinda lucky that I was in an orphanage of 60 kids so we were a bigger family than the left-footers.

Back to topic. Negros Oriental Science High School does have a good reputation.

I had a bad stuttering problem, so speech therapy when I was in the 2nd grade was for fat Sister Dorthea to whack me in the knuckles with the ruler when I couldn't get out co-co-co-co-man-mand-ment word and others. As I got older, I had to give some of my fellow Irish and Polish students knuckle sandwiches for teasing my speech problem.

Luckily, they don't whack student's knuckles here, only the parents ATM card...

My kids really like the Lifegiver Christian Academy on the Valencia Rd. Courses are in English and school books come from U.S.

LOL, PatO, sounds like the treatment I got from Catholic nuns for being left-handed! They gave up by the third grade, but I guess their "therapy" was partially successful, since I only write left-handed, do almost everything else right-handed.

Generally speaking , I would have to agree with you , however , if you examined the curriculum that a School of Tomorrow offers ( Lifegiver is one ) I think you would agree that these kids can hold their own against most any average U.S. school . Yes , it is a private school.
