Completely agree. The official investigation will hopefulle clarify, how such a collission could happen just outside one of the most busy ports in the country. And whatever errors or breach of regulation were involved, I hope authorities will step up to their job and crack down hard on the purpetrators.

In another thread the news was just reveiled, that the authorities responsible for air safety has grounded the entire fleet of Zest Airlines, until the company comply with a number of safety regulations.

Its high time, that safety at see is also taken seriously in this nation of 5.000 islands. And if this accident could be the final wake-up call for authorities due to its fairly high-profile nature (happening to a major shipping company just outside the port of a major city), then at least something good will have come out of it.

This is a fairly narrow channel and there are specific lanes. This video has 2GOs unofficial account of what happened.

Pictures show heavy damage to the front of the cargo vessel, so obviously the cargo vessel sailed into the ferry without noticing it, until it was to late. So I think the more pressing question here is, if the cargo vessel had a working radar?

Agree. I also hope the full inquire can cast some light over the causes of this accident.

This should not be a forum for pointing fingers and Making accusations. Let's keep it civil and send our condolences to the poor people who did not survive this disaster.

I am not pointing fingers at anyone or being uncivilized. I am simply reporting from first hand account, how the survivers are being treated by 2Go travel.

If such reports are not welcome here, then so be it. But sorry to say, that is just a ridicolous ostrich like policy.

You have a nice day also.

    32 dead, 751 survivors; search for 58 to resume | Sun.Star

"For the survivors, Salvio said the company will cover their medical expenses, travel expenses to Manila and the hotel accommodations of those who are still in Cebu."

So not a word about the 5.000 peso, which the CEO of 2GO promised yesterday would be payed to each surviver as "immedeate help". And this is exactly what the relatives of my wife were also told, when they went to the company office in Cebu Pier after spending the night in a hospital in Talisay without sleeping because of their chock: 2GO could help with accomodation for one night in Cebu and a hot meal, and thats it. No monetary compensation whatsoever.

That many passengers lost a lot of their personal belongings including clothes, which were in their luggage, but it now at the bottow of the see, that is apparently not the problem of 2GO travel.

Now of course the most important for my wife and her relatives is, that they are alive. But it still pisses me off completely, that a company owned by some very rich people show this kind of disrespect for people, who they have put though such a traumatic experience as this.

And to add insult to injury, the 2 companys involved in the disaster have already begun to blame each others crews publicly for being responsible for the accident:

    What a farce this is.

Another horrifying accident. I remember a former classmate back in high school where she lost 7 of her family members(not one of them survived) from a sunken ship called princess of the stars that was owned by sulpicio lines worst part is, for all 7 members she only got 150,000 pesos, that wasn't even close to burying them! Now I'm reading in my facebook, 4 mates of mine are crying out for help for the search of their loved ones that are still missing today. :-(
