I have been working on plans for building a 10' strip kayak for a few years..now its time to stop planning and start building.. What I need is someone with computer skills (CAD or ?) to be able to 'draw' it out for me in 3-D so I can have patterns ,(hopefully full size) for the temporary bulkheads.. Any one have any advice/help/suggestions of who or where I might find such a person..Thanks..Miguel
You can't draw it out "old school" style and make templates? There are no plans on the internet? At least for me, by the time I drew it out using a program I could have the templates already drawn out on cardboard or 1/8" mohagany.
There's a workshop down south before reaching the city limit( i don't remember the name) the guy build boats(fiber&wood), he made us fiber glass river board 6'(3 years ago), for sure he knows such software, or can help you out. There's also Nigel in tambobo bay maybe he has some sources.
Thanks KDF...I thought of that, as I'm "old school" too.. But..since this kayak has all rounded sides and 10 bulkheads,I thought I would trust getting the dimensions/patterns correct/exact, so when I strip and fiberglass the hull it dont look all wavvy...After all it is 2013 and computers now make design/build easier. Miguel
Maybe you can have them printed at the place where they do the "Blue Prints", besides "EMCOR" in the same street where is "Centrum Appliances" or where they make the banner printings...
Thanks SM.. (Don't ask me where you may find the patterns to print from...) and that is the question .need computer design person ..Miguel
I completely understand. I hate to sound redundant, but there are no kayak plans to your liking available on the internet? Option #2 - Hit up Mike Alano who posts here about fishing. He just had a very nice outrigger canoe built locally. Maybe he could steer you in the right direction.
I chatted with Mike and he said: "There is a canoe/boatbuilder tho that can help him. but the guy is hard to find. always busy. his name is babbu. good in fiberglass and molds too. search in FaceBook Babbu Wenceslao" Hopefully this helps you.
If this is the guy that has/had a shop along the Highway about where the Santa Monica crossing is, on the right side when driving into town. then I could not recommend him at all, I saw the boat that he build for the late owner of the Apo Vista place, it was not up to any standard and is now already broke, that was a wood/fiberglass construction, I am sure he has no clue about computers or making any useful patterns...
