I have direct contact but its private, Optimum trading near Obdulia's hotel. You can ask a very good rate better than the tariff if its bigger amount, just negotiate. They don't charge extra for service...I am very happy with them, they also have 3rd currencies just incase you need.

Honestly this whole money changing thing is a relic from the past. If you live in Dumaguete, open a local peso account and make wire transfers to that account from your account in a foreign bank. I have done that for maybe the past 7 years, it takes 3 banking days and cost me about 1.000 peso pr. transaction.

And if you are a visitor, bring one or more credit cards, pay with these, where you can (like in shopping malls and most hotels), and get cash from the ATM`s. The latter will cost a bit in fees, but its much more safe than carrying around large amounts of cash to last for your whole trip.

The money changer in the lobby at the Check Inn is almost always at least 40 Centavos higher than Optimum and will meet at your bank and do a credit memo, account to account transaction. Even better rates are given for larger amounts.

A friend of mine uses them, and only them. He thinks they are the best deal in town and swears by them.

I agree, they seem to give the highest rates around and it is much more private there. When you walk out it just looks like you are a guest of the hotel and not walking out of a money changer with loads of cash in your pocket.

    money changer

Check inn hotel also has a money changer that does the same thing at Commerce Bank ,no charge involved. Just go to cust. service desk and tell her how much and she will call them.

As with some other threads, this one started out with a different story in the beginning, now there is a lot of good information at the end of the thread about changing money but only a few people will read it because it does not show in the thread title.
Maybe "Mod1" could make a additional thread with only the info about the money changing...
    Just a thought...
