Both bikes are reportedly trashed. The expat has scrapes and small cuts

good to hear that he AND the two others are not badly injured. probably a rare case.

I am a kind of confused. if someone exits a private property onto a public street and got hit, it sounds to me like a lack of observation of traffic.

Does "has been settled in his favor" mean he does not need to pay for the vehicle he did not see ?

No offense, and certainly not my piece of cake as I don't know any of the involved parties, I just don't understand the earlier statement.

and sometimes it appears to be true ...

in my 13 years here, I experienced the huge increase of traffic and foreigners. The ratio between idiots on streets per thousand is imho the same for foreigners and locals.

You can observe many old white men over 50 who never rode a bike, and now suddenly need to follow their urge to be a "biker" (even on a Honda wave) without having the slightest clue how to handle it, acting against better knowledge, drinking and driving, no helmets, no mirrors, etc.

This is NOT supposed to criticize the person with the accident, but to the rather stupid generalizing of the quoted statement.

I just read hear earlier that member "shadow" which I assume is a foreigner went successful to a local office in an issue with a local department store....

Yes, we have twice been found in the right and ordered compensated with claims made at DTI against local businesses, Lee Plaza and Octagon. In both cases DTI listened carefully to both side of the story and sided with us, and replacement merchandise was awarded.

One must keep in mind that this is the Philippines, and common sense does not apply. For the most part, if you hit someone or something with the front of your vehicle, you are at fault, no matter how they got there or when. The standard rule is "who was there first?"

And you wondered why nobody slows down or even looks when they enter a highway!

It's more fun in the Philippines!
