But, now my questions was directed to the NBI in case someone reports it. Are you sure they will find this an appropriate official answer?
I have also heard last week about a new foreigner tax that will be introduced soon,no details though.
My google must work much better than yours! Barangay registration of foreigners - Living In Cebu - Living In Cebu Forums Larry
Rumours like this spread like wild-fire on the jungle telegraph. But if there was any serious substance to it, it would be the catalyst for a mass exodus.
They already exist. Taxation of foreign individuals, entities | Inquirer News I don't see a tax for simply being a foreigner coming. The BoI already takes care of that. If it were a city/town ordinance/tax then that mayor has to really hate foreigners.....or must have hit a new level of retarded. For me this is likely a non-issue no matter how it goes as I am technically a tourist and have no income other than a disability check from my government, which according to this article is exempt for foreign taxation. Again, I don't see anything online about a new "foreigner tax"........perhaps my new assistant can double check my search for me......cough cough Larry.
Perhaps my gf heard correctly from the two ladies that came to my place today though. Not so much a rumor when it is first hand. They said they will return tomorrow to speak with me, I will ask what the deal is if they show up. I'll probably tell them to leave the form with me and I will fill it out and take it to the barangay office.......then forget to do it. I know how follow ups go here and if they actually do follow up the "oh I'm so sorry, I had an emergency and had to go to manila to deal with it, I just arrived back today" always works.
Unfortunately, I wasn't home when they came by my house, my sister-in-law provided whatever info they wanted. I will go talk to our barangay captain tomorrow who doesn't speak English and he can tell me in Visayan what is happening. I will then post in Tagalog to update you all of what the goals and objectives for the process is. Apparently, we will have to wear an armband with "F' on us. They are requesting we do not add an "U" to the armband. Be cool.
Taxation of income is dependent on the source of the income and whether or not there is an agreement between the Phil. Gov't and the Gov't of the home country of the individual to avoid 'Double Taxation'. When a foreigner has an income from work or otherwise in the Phils, that income will be taxable under Phil law. When a foreigner has an income from sources outside the Phils, it is not taxable under Phil law under the provision of the agreement mentioned earlier. If you get a pension or similar from the US or the UK, that income is not taxable. Vicmico
