Why all the concern over Cebu getting foreigner information, their country? Maybe they can catch a pervert....

Why are they concentrating on this area? The concern comes in when a paid informant's testimony is given precedence over a solid alibi, and when police do such things as alter license plates in order to justify an arrest when they have no other evidence.

    Google "Ella Joy Pique".

    I know, but thanks.

So your "you are a guest here" comment doesn't always apply? I thought everyone here has only good intentions. We can't point out how something could go wrong with this or that'd be generalizing. Chances are they just want to make sure you're safe, I'm sure they will only use this information to make sure the police will bump up patrols around foreigners houses. Why be so negative?

    A couple thoughts on this

1... they are looking for someone in the area

2... They have info on some terrorists plans on the expats in the area and instead of warning you and causing panic they want to know who to contact later

If they are looking for someone maybe they should start with posting "wanted" pictures with a small reward. Watch how fast a foreigner gets turned in here.

If the Philippine government has Intel on possible terrorist attacks so does the US and the US embassy puts out warning when such information is acquired. It is irresponsible for a government to not warn the public about possible threats and to allow people to take extra precautions.......but then again, this is the Philippine government we are talking about here.

They will just change the evidence to fit the suspect. Give you a bottle of water while sitting in jail and then swap your DNA for the one on record.

Thanks for the report shadow. Its a rather sobering story for anybody, who actually consider to settle down in the Philippines and think, that it is a tropical paradise, where life is almost worryfree. And I also think, you are dead on the money, when it comes to the reason for this new "registration" of foreigners in the Dumaguete area.

The witch-hunt is on, because of course police does not want to lose face by admitting, that they are unable to catch a brutal child murderer, and that he is still on the loose. So much better for them to find some random scape-goat, preferably a foreigner, and claim he did it, even there is no evidence whatsoever against him.

I wonder if one of the forum expat members will be the next Lucky "Berger".......

Luckily for me, I was not in the country on july 3 of this year. And even for Philippine police passport stamps are hopefully a bit to hard evidence to ignore :D

You could have paid an immigration officer to give you a fake stamp. Lol don't underestimate the corruption and stupidity in this country. They had VIDEO of the other two suspects mentioned here in the waterfront at the time of the abduction......is there video of you coming through the airport, maybe, maybe not, could have been deleted, your passport could get "lost" after being arrested. I would have been held in contempt of court and had the key thrown away if i were them as I would have burst out in a mad fit of anger at the judge and police. Being here and being a foreigner is enough to lock you up for years. You are guilty until proven innocent.....that applies for any long nose here.

I am just speculating now. But I think, what happened in Cebu might have been because, they had already arrested the cupple and perhaps made some public claims, that they had caught the purpetrator. And they also had these children, who claimed to identify them. And then they were perhaps just a bit to willing to put aside any evidence, that did not support their theory, to safe face.

I think something similar could happen to a smaller or larger degree in many countries around the world. Particularly when we are talking about crimes like these, which cause a lot of public fury and anger. But the asian decire to "safe face" by not admitting publicly, they arrested the wrong person, is definitly also part of it.
