If there is a lesson in this for al us foreigners wanting to stay in the Philippines, it is probably to be a bit carefull, who you get involved with. Do you actually KNOW for sure, if those “activists”, you have met, are part of an armed rebellion group like NPA? Maybe you don`t, because you don`t understand local politics well enough. So better to stay out of it and leave it to the pinoys to solve their complicated political problems and conflicts themselfes. Now I am not saying, that authorities were right to apprehend her and question her for 2 days. But I can`t say, they were wrong either, because I simply don`t know the facts of, what actually happened, well enough. And anyway someone being retained for 2 days and then released and allowed to go back to her own country is really not that big of a deal. We just had another thread, where a woman sat 2 years in prison accused for murder, even though there was no evidence against her. And during the Arroya administration in particular there was a large number of murder cases against journalists. So this whole story seems to be “much ado about nothing” and mainly a distraction from much more serious problems, that need to be adressed.
