Hi, i am in a bit of a perdicament. i have a landlord who hard headed a jerk and dishonest. he will not provide tenants meter readings and charges a considerable amount for electric. my american friend who lives upstairs was charged over 9000 pesos last month, every month it seems to go up, despite conservation efforts on our part. We get attacked by his dogs, can not have company or use the facilities because everyone is afraid of the dogs(pitt bull, rottweiler) and despite tenants asking him to withhold the dogs from the run of the whole facility except at night, he just ignores us. Complicating the problem, i live near my relatives and i like it. LOL, first time in my life i liked my in laws. But there is no sufficient housing to be rented in Tagbilaran or on panglo or in bohol for that matter. Poor internet and lots of brownouts must be suffered to live in this area. In the city, its not as bad, but again, there is shortage of furnished housing that is suitable for expats. I have lived in cebu, and too much traffic and people and expensive. So that leaves dumaguette for me. i have visited and liked the city and mall. I do not want to have to move right now, but the situation here is about to get very bad. I am afraid i am going to have to kill the dog if we get attacked again, and the landlord brags he could shoot me in the head and he will not spend a day in jail. people are more important than dogs, and i have been advised i have the right to protect myself from them. But this crooked landlord will send is motorcycle gang goons after me, or bribe officials to cause problems for me if i kill his dogs. So i think its best to move to dumaguette. I know i can find some housing there, but i need reliable internet, higher speed, wifi does not cut it and is not safe. i do important and sensitive business over the internet. So before i decide to move, i just want to find out if there is anyone else who had fast reliable internet they depend on for thier business there. if i cant find reliable internet and a low brownout area to live, i might as well move to malaysia or some other part of asia. Any comments would be appreciated on my situation, as well as if anyone knows a small furnished place to live for me and my wife. thank you so much
First off, you can demand either a receipt as a proof of payment that your landlord actually paid a 9000 electricity bill for your american friend OR you can get a good electrician to read the meter out for you and that way you can calculate your monthly consumption before paying. If you dont believe thats how much electricity you consume a month then dont pay unless theres some proof of your electricity bill and if there is and its insane amount, good electricians can check if the property is grounded or someone is tapping and using your electricity.
Hi, we already know he is cheating us on the electric, i secretly have gone into the meter building and recorded the readings for the past few months. What can be done about this is one question, but i am pretty fed up with it here now, and we are going to come to blows soon because he is so rude and hard headed and i cant stand liers and cheats. what i really need to know is do you have good internet in dumaguette, globe, sun??? i have heard complaints about many things in many places in phils, but know nothing about the internet service there in duma. i was hoping it is good because stillman u is there. thanks, have a good day
if your pretty fed up with it, then get the hell out of there.lol. couldnt give you any better advice :-)
Bad situation man, bad situation. We have a saying in the U.S., "time to get the hell out of Dodge". It is a reference to time to leave town.
Answer to your question. Internet sucks in Dumaguete too. Manila seems to a half decent Internet sevice.
I remember "Rhoody" (I am not sure if it's still allowed to mention him, but here it is...), bragging all the time about his very fast Globe Line in town, so maybe there is fast Internet available, I think his was a hard wire connection...
We average download speeds of 5-7 mbp on our PLDT broadband (we have a landline). I know that isn't great, but by Dumaguete standards I think it is pretty good. I don't think the upload speeds are great, but we don't upload large files so it isn't an issue for us. If you are needing a good internet speed for uploads, I am not sure what you can find here.
Sky Cable is one option if you must have good internet, but it is not available everywhere in this area. I had it when I lived in Bacong and it always exceeded my expectations, but that was almost 2 years ago and things may have changed. In general it is only available if you live relatively close to the highway or in a major subdivision that is wired for it. http://www.mysky.com.ph/locations/loc/3/dumaguete/plans
