    Hi,

I recently sent money to my family but the bro in law went to collect at western union at robinsons and was told he could not have it due to his Id had expired, Well i am a bit annoyed here as he has the number needed and my name etc so the people are just being a pain there,

I called Weston union from uk and they said to tell him to try another branch, but could not tell me one!

Can anyone please advise me where he can go other then robinsons mall,

It's been 4 days now that I sent the money

There is one in Lee Plaza and another opposite the World View pension that I know of. There are others scattered around.

There are several branches downtown, two on Perdices near Worldview (one is the main branch of RCBC, just like the mall) another right across the street seems to be run pretty well. Another is up neat the bell tower. There are other branches as well.

That all being said, I think it will be highly unlikely he will be able to collect, they all run by the same rules. ANY kind of money transfer here requires valid ID (even to SEND money), be it the pawnshops, LBC, Xoom, Moneygram, or bank transfer. He best start working on updating his ID, or else find someone else to send your money to. You can even send it to me if you like!

Yes you can. You go to the office where you created the transfer. They will check to see if the money has been collected, and if not, you may cancel it. Then, you can send it again to whomever you like.

Also, according to WU worldwide, the recipient has one year (365 days) to collect the money.

I don't have enough blood pressure meds on hand to go to the one in Robinson's anymore.

No, you cannot change the name, but as young Larry pointed out you can cancel the transfer and send it to someone else.

ID's and paper trail are important.

I had the similar problem with sending money from the US a couple of years ago.

I was able to change the name, believe I even did it over the phone. Do not give up and do not expect much help from you relative here.

NOW, before I send any money to anyone here by any method, I asked them for a valid ID, and the name on the ID. It saves a lots of frustration. The name has to match exactly.

Although I sympathize with your frustration as I have been there. When you relaize that the Philippines from the top to the bottom thrives on corruption, you would understand why the rules are as they are here for legitimate companies involving money. How many countries are having the scandal along the pork barrel type that has endured here for decades. Many newspaper articles her list the fact that money has just "disappeared" as on person points their finger at the next and the next points at the next. There is no paper trail to trace money transactions, well they is one in a couple of weeks later but the ink usually smears because it is still wet.

The advice on here you have been given here is very realistic. As much as you would like to be pissed at Western Union, they have to protect themselves from the culture here. Almost all the money sending companies are the same. The name on the ID has to match with the sending name, including middle name or initial . You do have to "dot your i's" and "cross you tees" here even with the pawnshops. Please remember you have expectations of WU, but it is so difficult for them to have to deal with people here. Just as you realize your relative does not keep his ID valid, you may not understand that when he goes to get a new ID, that things will be all screwed up, and it may take him weeks to get one. No one here cares. Time is not valuable her.

After I paid for my new motorcycle tag, it took 4 weeks to get it. The Philippines government, who takes my money has no stock of tags available, yet that department of the government (LTO) is the second highest revenue producer in the government. License plates are still in the same situation here.
