Anyone know where and if solar powered portable lights/radio or other such things might be sold in Duma?
Citi Hardware has some solar powered lights for the exterior. One even has a motion detector. I am sure some other hardware stores around would have something. I also have a recargeable light by Firefly that produces a lot of light. I just have to keep it charged up for the bi-weekly brown outs here.
Handyman (at Robinsons) has quite a selection of these type of things, as with Dave & Imp, we keep a Firefly rechargeable always ready, It took me ages though, to get the girls to make sure, it went on charge after each Brown out. We are however, having problems in finding replacement batteries of the size we need, for our Garden Solar lamps Maybe this will get some advice/answers, during the thread
Here in the UK one can find solar powered security lights with sensors...any similar object in Dumaguete? Does anyone know about 12v solar chargers's applications? I've also seen solar charger with USB output to charge cameras/smartphones from the Bear Gryll range but it costs an arm and a leg @ £80.00....
Went and looked around today...looks like sold out because of tacloban..was told one guy from cebu came and bought everything solar...tacloban needs it..just hope he isnt gouging the people in need!
Hi all, A member named John was getting them from Manila by the box of 30 units and was handing them out for about 400 peso I got 2 for the oldies a year ago the are still working ok cheers
It would not be difficult at all to make your own charger for significantly less. All that would be needed is a small solar panel of 1 square foot or even less (appropriately sized to meet whatever is being charged) and a USB cable. The two outermost wires of the USB plug are the DC connections. The two innermost are for data and are not necessary in a charge only application. Too simplify things the (loaded) voltage should not exceed 3 volts of what is being charged, but voltage can be reduced in a number of ways if need be.
Alex, earlier this month I enquired about the d.light S2, an upgrade from the ones I ordered last year. The price I was quoted, 504p, is similar if not a little less than the advertised price on Amazon. Amazon.com: d.light LED Solar Rechargeable #S2 Task Light: Patio, Lawn & Garden I emailed the distributor in Manila yesterday to be sure they still have some in stock. If so, I'll post the information here, and possibly buy a case myself to give away or let go at my cost to members who want one or more and will buy extra ones to distribute to people who don't have power.
