I was waiting for this a looooong time, finally we will know if the moon landing was made in Hollywood or if the Americans were really there and left all the stuff...

From the article: "...and the first such landing by any country since 1976, when the Soviet Union sent a probe..."
"In a CCTV.com interview, Ouyang Ziyuan, a senior advisor of China’s lunar probe project, said the lander will hover above the moon at about 330 feet (100 meters)."
“Then using special cameras it will look for a flat place to land on. Then when it’s about 4 meters above ground, its engine will stop,” Ouyang said. “The lander’s four legs are shockproof and will ensure a soft landing.”

Suppose they will say the moon is Chinese sovereignty now, so back off.

I had a joke that I would bring up by occasion in the 90", "When the scientists would finally get to the smallest thing in the Universe, they would find that it's stamped "Made in Japan""

I am pretty confident that they will make it, it's in a way an European effort as well as Germany and some other countries are helping tracking the probe...

What makes you think the Chinese would rat out the US if they found out the US hadn't actually landed there? Nothing to be gained other than a headache in foreign relations.

AS the moon got a surface area almost as big as Asia, I would be surprised if they on a fly over see any traces of previous missions anyway.
Well, that could be something to report. "We saw no traces of previous moon missions".

The lunar laser ranging experiment is pretty good evidence someone was there. If you have a strong enough laser you can send it to the moon, have it reflect off a really expensive mirror made by the government and then see it come back about 4 seconds later. That's pretty good proof they were there....at least for me. Chinese input not necessary. (other than providing the laser at a discounted price)

I don't need to take a side yet, I will just wait for the proof, and if it was a fake, one can be sure that the Chinese will have a feast, the way the US and Japan are ignoring their newly established air space boundary will surely be enough tinder to ignite a nice firework...

"denpet" Maybe you missed this one "the lander will hover above the moon at about 330 feet (100 meters)", I don't know how far away the Apollo landing site is but I am sure that their cameras are very good...
