I was informed by a reliable source that Pirate Bay Bar and Resto along the boulevard shuts down operation for good.
I know the place when passing by though never visited. I might be wrong but it's seems to me also not the hang out for Brian Ausi or..??!!
Getting a straight answer from anyone regarding anything at all in this city (country?) is difficult to impossible. I went there the other day. They said they are shutting down for renovations. Renovations by the owner of the building to fix the building? I don't know. I can't see Pirate Bay shutting down to renovate the bar. It's already good enough and they have sunk enough money into that place. I don't see any point in doing much more. I can't see the owners of Pirate Bay letting that place go without attempting to sell it. I would think they would try to see business and / or relocate it. What's left? Maybe there is something major that is wrong with the building? Are they going to tear the building down to make way for something else? Did the owners jack up the rent and Pirate Bay decided the rent wasn't worth paying. Who knows. As long as there is one decent place to pick up a beer on the Boulevard then I'm happy.
Update, I asked someone inside the building and this is what she said to me... qua cera cera what ever will be will be. Could not help myself lol. They going to demolish the building and re-build it. Time scale 4- 6 months Philippine time. Andy from Bogarts is rubbing his hands.
That's what I was thinking. The owner had to be pushing this. Again, it may have been a major issue with the building. Or the owners got ambitious and want to build something they can make more money on. Just goes to show that common sense gets you farther than asking people questions. Since nothing seems set in stone, I can't see Pirate Bay coming back. The owners of Pirate Bay don't live here and they would have to pass the torch to someone local to fight for it. However, Theresa is a fighter and I believe she had been planning on moving back. Whatever, good luck to everyone. Hopefully the boulevard will improve from all this development.
Its a prime location being on the boulevard and I'd be betting also the owner of the building couldn't get a major bump in rent when contract came up so this is the excuse. Finding a half decent location for a business is a killer if anywhere walking distance to town or a college. Building owners want 15-20k for something barely big enough for a tiny work office. I'd love to start up a small business myself but meeting monthly costs with rent alone make it a high risk thing. Either be out where wouldn't get passing customers or pay so much in rent can barely scrape a profit with high prices.
I was told by someone who asked there that a tiny place (beauty shop?) just around the corner from the Eden eatery was paying 30T a month
A small piece of grass on the blvd, with no electric, water, or sewer rights, will rent for P20,000/month. Rents along the blvd and downtown are outrageous. Larry
